Are leather leggings still a thing?

Browsing online shopping for things I might wear once I’m back to a pre pregnancy shape if not size.

Are leather look leggings still a thing? I liked them pre baby but I feel like I’ve been in maternity wear forever and now I’m not sure what I even want to wear.

@DramaAlpaca

I don't care if they are in or out, I will never be parted from mine. I love them, they look great on me, I feel good in them, they are staying!

As for the cropped, flared things - just no. They look ridiculous and I'd feel so self conscious wearing them, flapping around above my ankles.

Completely agree with this. I bought some cropped baggier jeans and cigarette style last summer in an attempt to be more fashionable, they have remained in the drawer. I'm slim with narrow hips and long legs. Baggy styles just make me look shapeless. To be honest I don't know weather they suit that many people. You'll prise my skinny jeans and pu leggings off me when I'm dead, not before! They flatter my shape and go with everything.
QuizzicalEyebrows · 18/01/2022 12:20

Just wear what suits your body shape

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 18/01/2022 12:28

I see them advertised a lot these days. I'm too self-conscious to try them but i just bought a lovely pair of black faux-leather joggers, love them!

grownup2 · 18/01/2022 13:38

I'm currently living in the M&S coated jeggings. I think they're a bit less try-hard than leather, and certainly less sticky to wear (I have experience!). These are somehow indestructible: easy to wash, never baggy, never sweaty, with a very slight sheen. Recommend if you want to try the general look with low investment. And as for ditching skinnies, what's an apple to do when legs are the slim and shapely bit?

BusterGonad · 18/01/2022 17:02

Nothing to do with the Op's question, but I actually quite like the look of the new boot cuts and flares, my issue us if you're tall you just cannot get away with them flapping about your ankles, I cannot get on board with my ankles exposed in boot cuts or flares. Whereas with a skinny Jean it kind of looks okay and fashionable. Is it really a thing to have them flapping? I must be so entrenched in the 90s. I'm not sure I could do it!

Delatron · 18/01/2022 17:36

Cropped flares are fine for summer.

But when I’m on a dog walk with snow boots? Not really going to work. I think leather leggings tucked in to hiking/snow boots with a long/thick chunky jumper look fine and I feel good in them.

I hate the cropped jumper/High waisted/loose/cropped trouser trend. I have tried. Spent £200 on a pair of cropped flares. Put them on with my DM style boots and DH laughed at me. (As he did when I put my wide legged leather trousers on) I don’t really care but I do think it all looks ridiculous.

In spring I’ll resurrect a looser/cropped jean.

But with boots?

I do have some full length wide legged trousers that I’ll wear with trainers when it’s not so cold.

Current jean trends are so hard to wear.

DillDanding · 18/01/2022 17:41

My MIL (80s) wears cropped trousers. She’ll be pleased to learn she’s trendy.

Bluebluemoon39 · 18/01/2022 17:44

They are for me!

Dh gets all hot and bothered when I wear them too 😂

CrimbleCrumble1 · 18/01/2022 17:45

I still love mine, they are six years old.
I’ve bought quite a few leather look pairs too.

shivermetimbers77 · 18/01/2022 17:47

Anytime I see someone wearing leather trousers or leggings I just think of the Friends episode with Ross, Joey and the talcum powder.

6464zz · 18/01/2022 17:47

I think they've had their day.

Stiffcondomhat · 18/01/2022 17:49

Cropped bootcut trousers were called half masts in my day and lead to social ruin.

LumosSolem · 18/01/2022 17:54

Cropped boot cuts/flares, particular if black, just remind me of my school trousers in the late 90s when I'd had a growth spurt. Ankle biters 😁

ItsRainingTacos · 18/01/2022 18:01

@BusterGonad you'll be pleased to know they're cropped only on someone over 5ft10. They fit shorter people like me like regular trousers Grin

thisplaceisweird · 18/01/2022 18:06

The comments on these threads are always so pathetic and defensive.

OP asks "is X trendy"
People who are actively interested in fashion say yes/no
Frumpy people go "well I would rather be OUT OF FASHION because X looks AWFUL"

Ok... Don't be trendy if you don't want to. Nobody cares!

LumosSolem · 18/01/2022 18:13

Ok... Don't be trendy if you don't want to. Nobody cares!

Yes but no point in being 'trendy' if the trend looks absolutely ridiculous on your body shape. Far better to dress for your body shape and if you're interested in fashion there are other items you can wear that will help keep your outfit a bit more up to date.

I don't actually think skinnies are out as such, just that in the 2010s they were pretty much the only jeans that women were wearing. I really like now that there is more choice- jeans actually seem to be not so trend led and people tend to have a variety- I really like having boyfriend jeans after years of skinnies but I do still like my skinnies too and find they go better with certain tops/shoes etc than boyfriend jeans.

ItsRainingTacos · 18/01/2022 18:22

😂

MangoLipstick · 18/01/2022 18:30

I ordered some from asos recently, love them.

I also love wider/looser leg jeans and but I’ve been wearing them for a while, so it’s not really a trend thing.

I don’t like the look of those cropped flared leather trousers, they look abit Confused.

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2022 18:32

Frumpy people
You mean people who have the sense to cover their ankles in winter?

5128gap · 18/01/2022 18:47

Depends where you live. They're still going very strong around here. Its never much use asking on here about whether a style is current, as there is such regional variation, not to mention age, lifestyle etc. For example, if i went out to a local bar in an evening in a midi dress and trainers, id stick out like a sore thumb amidst all the jeans/nice tops, lycra and heels. Theres also way more wonen who wear skinnies than mom jeans, even the young ones Personally I'd have a look at what local women are wearing and let that be your guide.

EdinaMonsoon · 18/01/2022 18:59

If I was guided by what the majority of local women wear, I would be stuck in those bloody awful Dubarry boots and other frumptastic attire!

OP, wear them if you like them. I bought a pair from Commando in 2019 and am still wearing them regularly now. Personally, I think they look great with a chunky knit (bum covering of course) and ankle boots - either flats or with a heel. Love them with trainers on other people too but they make my legs look very chunky worn that way. I also like leather look trousers that are tapered or with a paper-bag waist but they must be full length. That weird mid-calf flappy nonsense is dire.

Stiffcondomhat · 18/01/2022 19:10

"Trendy" 🤣

ringoutthebells · 18/01/2022 19:11

Agree with below post. They're not cutting edge but still totally fine - with chunky/over-sized knits and chunky boots atm I'd say. Baggier styles / leather trousers are more 'now' but I'm not a fan of the baggy or cropped ones I must say, fashion or no fashion. High waist Leather shorts have also been popular. Have had to skip those myself as pregnant but the faux leather look leggings have been great.

thebigpurpleone · 18/01/2022 19:18

I love my Spanx Moto leggings.

Delatron · 18/01/2022 19:28

Mine are the commando ones. They are fab. I like a long roll neck knit over the top and my puffer. A puffer with wide leg cropped jeans would not work. Unless you’re 17 maybe.
