Does anyone know what the style name of this Max Mara coat is?

Where does the picture come from?

I don't know which one it is. The fastening is unusual.

It is a picture sent to my by my friend. Her neighbour is selling and I am looking for one! It looks lovely but I live 200 miles away so can’t see it in person. I don’t know whether Max Mara coats can be fakes? So was looking to MN for advice. Thank you!

Not all Max Mara coats have a name, just the perennial iconic ones. This looks like a fashion coat (as in, a style that came once). There are fakes out there but it tends to be of the iconic ones not the fashion ones. The tags and lining look in keeping with the era. How much do they want for it that it requires this additional research, or do you just want better pictures of it on?

Thank you! They want £200 for it. I know that is a lot less than full price, but still max amount I would spend on a coat.

Is it a mainline Maxmara or one of the cheaper ranges eg s’max /weekend. I ask this because there is a massive price difference. Maxmara £1000’s, other ranges £100’s.

That's a lot for a 20 yr old coat. I know the prices for secondhand Max Mara coats inflated a bit but the demand for them doesn't appear to be as strong anymore so it feels a bit too much by my estimation. These coats weren't that insanely expensive new as they are now. On Vestiaire Collective you can get a woollen Max Mara coats for less.

I’m not sure which range/line it is. They have just said it is a Max a Mara coat that they were gifted a few years ago and selling because they never wear it. She’s not very tall and said the long style doesn’t work for her. I am tallish so I like that it is a long coat.

How can you tell it is a mainline?

Sorry, I think I made up the 20yrs from 200 miles it does look a bit older than 7yrs ago in style. I'm deducing that from the length and the side fastening style that hasn't really been fashionable for a while, but it's possible of course.

Mainline you can tell from the label, the dark grey lettering on greyish white and no further addition (atelier, studio, weekend, etc.) Although which one you'd call the main line is debatable, but this is their most common line, but not necessarily the most expensive (that's atelier iirc) but not the cheapest either.

It's a similar shape but the Piroghe looks to be a double faced camel hair coat with no lining and it has pick stitching finishes on the collar. It's possible the Piroghe is based on this older coat, I'd need to see it more up close but it comes across like it has more basic finishes than the Piroghe which is a top of their range coat.

Camel as is in camel hair coat, that also happens to be camel coloured.
