Designer bag experts - where do you buy preloved?

I’m looking for a Gucci Marmont. I’d prefer to pick up a preloved bag in excellent condition but I’m new to the designer bag game. Obviously want to ensure I buy the real thing. Can anyone help?

I personally don't buy secondhand bags from popular brands where the likelihood of fakes is high. But if I were to I'd stick to reputable sellers as opposed to the secondhand market places, and that would mean in excellent condition you'd be paying very close to retail prices. Naughtipidgens nest is good in the UK, I think the handbag clinic also sells some restored bags so that's like excellent condition but different. The added benefit with professional sellers is that you can return the item if for whatever reason it doesn't feel right and you can also get it authenticated in that return period allowance.

Not that I can afford even pre loved designer bags, but I think Vestiaire Collective is a good, reputable place for second hand designer stuff.

botemp · 16/01/2022 16:23

Vestiaire Collective has a mixed reputation, it's generally good for most things but fakes slip through, and it happens mostly with high end popular bags. A lot of issues with Chanel, not sure about Gucci, The Purse Forum will know.

I’d definitely second @botemp recommendation, I’ve bought and sold through npnbags.co.uk - Sian is lovely and very knowledgeable. That style tends to fly out though so you’d need to check regularly and perhaps follow on Facebook. Sian used to run a wish list, not sure if she still does for the super popular styles but worth asking.

There are also a couple of decent Facebook groups you could try where they’re really hot on keeping the fakes and scammers out. Worth exploring as you can get some great preloved bags that have been barely carried. Good luck!

Cherrypie32 · 16/01/2022 21:12

Thanks all. I’ve checked all the recommendations so far. I might just end up purchasing new. Hubby bought me one for Xmas but it was the small and I wanted slightly bigger but then felt even more uncomfortable about the price! Thought I’d check out pre loved first.

Addicted to Handbags is very reputable. Often gets Gucci in preloved.

Bushkin · 16/01/2022 21:53

Sellier but they don’t carry much Gucci- worth a try though as they are definitely trustworthy re authenticity etc

Sunsetsupernova · 16/01/2022 21:56

Vestiaire Collective have had a lot of reports of fakes recently. I also really rate Sellier but stock is limited and sells extremely quickly

Cherrypie32 · 17/01/2022 07:17

It’s completely addictive! I was never into designer bags now I can’t stop looking at them and now have a couple of other favourites Grin

Not vestaire unless you authenticate separately

Npn or sellier both good

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 17/01/2022 07:23

Labels Most Wanted and Naughtipidgins Nest are both highly rated.

NeedWineNow · 17/01/2022 09:08

Came on to say Naughtipidgins Nest. Excellent service.

Frollop · 17/01/2022 14:14

Have you tried Luxury Promise.

tiredofthisshit21 · 17/01/2022 14:20

Hi OP, there are various FB selling sites where they have moderators who ensure that the seller posts the right photos in order to be able to see that the bag is genuine. They don't authenticate them as such, but it's rare to find fakes on these types of sites. For Gucci try The Designer Handbag Closet - you'll probably have to ask to join the group.

Bushkin · 17/01/2022 14:21

There is no way to accurately authenticate a bag from photos on a fb group, there are so many super fakes out there

carhelpplease · 17/01/2022 14:54

Sellier are good for ensuring fakes don't make it through. I wouldn't trust VC, I know someone who got a fake there

MrsKDB · 17/01/2022 14:55

But you can get it authenticated when it arrives

Thanks all so much for your replies. I’ve gone for this beauty via Addicted To Handbags after going through all the sites recommended. I went for a neutral Marmont and am going to fill the gap for an evening bag with a Soho or Disco because I’ve got the budget left over! As I said, addictive this handbag shopping!

I think the fact that it's so easy to make really good fakes that are very difficult to spot shows what a con the whole designer handbag thing is in the first place!

CurlyFerret · 17/01/2022 18:12

Excellent colour choice @Cherrypie32 I hope you enjoy using her 😃

I actually used to really really love designer bags. Then on a whim decided to see what the quality of fakes on DH Gate was so ordered a copy of my LV Neverfull and I was shocked at how good it was for £40 in comparison to £1,050. I just can’t spending that much on a bag nowadays.
