On the hunt for wedding guest outfits

Can anyone help a picky customer with wedding guest shopping for the year ahead? I have a bunch of weddings this year and have been trawling online to look for outfits and come up with very very little so far. Any pointers towards smaller brands to look at or specific dresses would be gratefully received!

For reference; 31, 5'2" (so ideally I wear petite but do have a good tailor if a dress would lend itself to being taken up). Size 8-10, 32C. Conscious of the tummy area!

In an ideal world I would love to find things that are kind of contemporary or 'cool' / different looking, that seems very cringe to write though. I'm not really into very girly-girly frothy frilly things at all. Something a bit more edgy than the usual would be great though.

I am looking for: Blues, Greens / Olives and cooler colours suit best. Sleeves of some sort are a plus, as is the ability to wear a normal bra with no crazy straps. Open necklines whether V neck, round or square.
Very into a jumpsuit, if the right fit can be sourced.
I am looking to rewear to multiple occasions so up to £200 is ok if versatile.

Not looking for: White (obviously), Black or Red. Not into revealing strappy numbers or very clingy sexy styles, i'd be morto. Maxi dresses don't really suit me. I do not like 50s style type things, polka dots and animal prints.

Many thanks to anyone who is up for some internet sleuthing or has any suggestions!

Interesting challenge!

Stumbled upon this designer Rikya and, while I don’t see anything in their current collection that’s quite what you’re looking for, you may think it would be worthwhile having another look once their Spring clothes are on the site.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 04:25

They’re calling this a ‘day dress’ - but it’s so very beautifully made, from such lovely fabric in a glorious colour, I can easily see it dressed up for a wedding. All it would need is great eyebrows and fabulous shoes. And ironing skills. But I don’t know if it would suit your contexts.

How about this? Silk Fred have loads of occasion jumpsuits that might work for you. www.silkfred.com/womens/clothing/jumpsuits-and-playsuits/ax-paris/green-and-white-printed-belted-jumpsuit

@LiterallyKnowsBest - are we looking at the same dress? That's a dirty browny green sack!!?

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 05:28

This dress is wonderful. Amazing detail at the back especially. I’d iron or stitch the front open. May need shortening. Can’t argue the merits and demerits of rayon as opposed to silk at this time of the morning - it does seem to hang nicely. And it’s a ‘bargain’.

Obviously, all a matter of personal taste, as Blueuggboots comment proves!

Ooh suggestions for breakfast, thanks all - having a good click around at all these.

@LiterallyKnowsBest - i'm enjoying your interesting options, and certainly new sites & brands to keep an eye on (agree Rikya would be one to watch for new season.) Also liking the greeny colours you're sourcing - my only feedback is the "dirty brown green sack" (ha) and the Theo dress linked are a bit shapeless, as I tend to suffer from drowning in fabric due to smallness.

Silkfred definitely I will keep digging around on - I had the second green jumpsuit earmarked so I'm glad someone agrees, @PartyPlan
Is it just me though or is the Silkfred website a nightmare to trawl through?

I will keep digging and if anyone else wants to keep suggesting that would be great! Very helpful for new ideas so far

I’ve got my eye on the Nancy Mac jumpsuit (in that colour) for a wedding this year. It’s just difficult to know how it would fit with it being online. Had anyone bought one before?

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 09:21

More shape? Just saw this. It’s not my idea of wedding-wear fabric, but I do think it’s intriguing, and could look rather impressive on the right person. And no one else would be wearing the same! (Also an astonishingly tiny price for this particular brand.)

🍿

plinkyplanky · 16/01/2022 09:27

@LiterallyKnowsBest - well it's certainly different! Honestly I am not that brave, and not sure it's wedding-y enough as you mentioned.

Definitely enjoying your unusual sources though, there's loads of quirky weird things to look at on this Machine-A site, if only I was a wealthy woman.

Honestly don’t know whether this is a great easy-wearing frock that would look good on any grand occasion, or … hand-me-down curtains at a seaside b&b in a Graham Greene novel. You decide!

(Neckline could be adjusted, of course.)

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 09:34

(My Evernote files are full of impossible things from this shop … During the sales it can sometimes seem like the place the dreams of overly avaricious brands go to die. They may slash a price to almost nothing while the same item is still being sold for half a million €€ on European websites.)

Ask me why I get nothing useful done … Hmm

LiterallyKnowsBest · 16/01/2022 10:00

Just one more.

This is just … wow!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 16/01/2022 14:52

Too fifties?

plinkyplanky · 16/01/2022 21:23

@LiterallyKnowsBest - laughing at your descriptions here Grin. Enjoying the wacky outfit rabbit holes, and the new sources of inspiration, but alas nothing I can see suiting my strict criteria as of yet!

@Thecurtainsofdestiny, ooh I really like that green satiny wrap, and looks like Rewritten could be a great little find - their stuff looks v interesting! The second option you linked from Little Black Dress is indeed too fifties / prim & proper for me, but I'm sure would be nice on the right person.

@sunnyhoneybumblebee (your name is adorable), I do like that asos dress - my SIL has it too and it's lovely on her. Maybe a little on the girly side for me, but out of stock in any case.

I wore this to a wedding last year, so many compliments! It's so well made and fit absolutely beautifully.

I know you said no red, they have a lot of unusual, gorgeous patterns on their site.
