Need dress for funeral

Hi, it's such a long time since I've been to a funeral that I have no idea what to wear. Looking for a black dress but ideally something not too smart that I will be able to wear again. Budget up to about £70. Also is it ok to wear chunky boots to a funeral? I don't really have smart shoes any more. I have black flat pumps but that's about it. Help!!

Oh and I'm a short size 14 if that helps.

Just saw the update - Hobbs have a petite range too.

You don't need a dress for funerals these days. Most important is to look smart - well, as if you cared enough to make an effort. You don't have to wear black but peoole often wear dark colours so as not to stand out. But trousers are very acceptable these days.

If you have any decent charity shops near you, I find them invaluable for smart clothes which people tend to only wear once or twice and hence they stay in very good condition. I have twice bought black dresses from a charity shop to wear to funerals.

We had my son’s funeral last year. It meant a lot that people came, I honestly couldn’t have cared less what they were wearing. Most people did wear black but not everyone.

But to answer your question I am petite and own a lot of black dresses - for your price range I’d say have a look at Saint + Sofia, Phase 8 and Boden. Actually sometimes Gap has some decent stuff in petite sizes.
