I feel weird without eyeliner!

I've worn eyeliner pretty much every day since I was about 16. Never leave the house without it (and mascara).

I've decided I want to change this, but I'm really struggling - I feel "naked" and weird out and about without it. Is that really ridiculous??

I feel like I don't look like myself or look half asleep, when in reality I probably look fine!

Does anyone relate? How can I get over it!

I was the same. But also wanted to go lore natural. Someone recommended tight lining.

It might be a good mid step for you. Less eyeliner, not so obvious. But something there, iyswim.

Googling it now!

I feel like I don’t look like me without eyeliner too.

Today was the first day I did my face without eyeliner. I still used mascara and blusher with a bit of shimmer on my eyes and cheeks and I actually quite liked the fresher look.

I remember seeing JLo in a really winter-y video around 2001-2002 where she just had gorgeous dewy skin and I’ve tried (& failed!) to recreate it ever since!

RoyKentsChestHair · 14/01/2022 21:14

Just googled it and can’t find the one I’m thinking of. Maybe I dreamed it! There’s one called Baby I Love U where she has really minimal make up but actually looks a bit washed out so not sure it was that one!

PumpkinCrumble · 14/01/2022 21:22

Yes I know what you mean, but I was never very good at eyeliner. I applied on the water-line and if it smudged then hey, all the more rock and roll! I’ve NEVER been able to get liquid or kohl eyeliner close enough to either lash line for it to look good, on either my top lid or under the bottom. I do tight-line now though and like the more subtle effect.

LeLaa · 14/01/2022 21:23

Haha! @RoyKentsChestHair I know what you mean! Maybe I just need to keep going till I get used to it 😭

I look awful without my eyes done and so don’t leave the house without eyeliner - sad but true!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 14/01/2022 21:37

I'm never seen without my flicky cat eyeliner. I'll take that to the bitter end Blush

IvorCutler · 14/01/2022 21:44

It takes some getting used to but if you persevere you’ll feel weird wearing it again. At least I do! I stopped wearing it when I was 29 (nearly 38 now), it just felt like too much makeup.

IvorCutler · 14/01/2022 21:45

I have spent a lot more on mascara since I stopped though! It’s become more important.

SarahJessicaParkin · 14/01/2022 21:48

Yes, I am the same op!

I only wear it for work now or for proper nights out. On the odd occasion a colleague might see me without it on they ask if I'm tired HmmGrin

I don't really wear make up outside work. And I don't do my hair. Just wash it and brush it. It's lovely and I don't feel as if I look bad at all. Not sure what made this happen or when it happened though, as in dags gone by, I wouldn't have left the house without it. Now I just won't cross the threshold of my work place without it, which is a step in the right direction I suppose!

I line right at the base of my top lashes with a highly pigmented charcoal eyeshadow using an angled eyeliner brush. . Bit like tightlining. It can easily be blended to look softer.

isthismylifenow · 15/01/2022 07:26

I tried skipping the liner. I looked like a ghost permanently. I have very light colouring and light eyes so I decided I needed the extra help so gone back to using it.

I tightline on upper water line, but only on the lash line on lower about 3/4 of the way. Blending is key though otherwise it looks too harsh. I use a clarins soft pencil which has a brush on the other end, so it's subtle. But there. And I use golds, greens, browns. Never black.

ilovetomatoes · 15/01/2022 07:41

Why stop using it if you like how it looks? I’m the same, never occurred to me not to use it! I just go softer during the day, heavier and thicker for evening.

Coffeepot72 · 15/01/2022 08:34

I’ve tried to wean myself off eyeliner many times over the years, but I never succeeded. I look and feel better with eyeliner, even if it might be a dated look

For me it takes time off my morning routine if I don't have to do it and also it doesn't have to be taken off at night. Also I can rub my eyes without smudging it. I do look weird without it, but I definitely feel better physically without it
Coffeepot72 · 15/01/2022 09:06

Is tight lining when you line the upper lid?

whowhywhenwhat · 15/01/2022 09:24

Tightlining is lining the routes of the lashes. There are YouTube videos on methods and you can also see it if you google images tightlining. I don't do this (have got spots around eyelash routes before. Think the kohl pencil can block skin pores sometimes). Hence I use a highly pigmented mineral powder dry with a brush just like ordinary eyeliner but the effects are more like tightlining IYSWIM. I think because it is easier to go closer to the route than with a pencil.
