Help! Smart flat shoes for court

Can anyone help me work out what flat shoes are smart enough for a solicitor to wear to a High Court hearing with a skirt suit? Between covid and mat leave I haven’t had to go for ages and I just can’t manage heels anymore (dodgy back thanks to lugging the toddler around). Any suggestions gratefully received!

Court shoes?

brogues
monk shoes
boots
loafers

Anything that you can polish would be fine. It's harder to make suede look smart IMO.

But honestly, who is it that you think will be assessing your shoes? The judge won't see them. Your instructed counsel won't assess them. As long as you're in court clothes and feel good, you'll be fine, surely?

Or do you work for Vardags? Wink

I like Gabor shoes. They are comfortable.

Thanks @Mia85, I hadn’t thought of Jigsaw even though I’ve always liked them for work clothes.

It depends what your legs are like. Brogues or loafers looked terrible on me with a skirt, so I used to wear either a substantial ballet type shoe in black leather,www.clarks.co.uk/c/Couture-Bloom/p/26115485
or something with a slight heel and strap.
It also depends on what the skirt is like - if below the knee, you could maybe wear boots, but if on or just above the knee, then you can probably wear some sort of slightly chunky loafer type things.

smart

length of skirt is key

I wear ankle boots to court in the winter. Even the High Court. Seems to be fairly standard.

Hobbs?

Not at Vardags @fernsandlilies and not in much danger of being accused of being a pretty young thing but I enjoyed the link 😉

Good point that I’m the only one who cares about my shoes. Just feel like I’m out of practice at putting outfits together and want to feel confident.
