I'm size 20 and short. I need outfit suggestions and shoes for a ceilidh, please - preferably flat/comfy shoes!! I also need a tartan item...

Would trousers work?!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Trousers are absolutely fine. You need to be comfortable for a ceilidh. I had one at my wedding. Took my heels off and replaced them with white converse 😂

Trousers would absolutely work! Something light and loose on top, as its easy to get very hot. Any kind of flat shoe will be fine, although best it doesn't have too grippy or too slippy a sole, both make dancing harder . Also, and I speak from experience here, unless you are pretty flat chested, consider wearing a sports bra....

As for tartan bit - if you have long hair a tartan scrunchie or hairband would be good, some kind of brooch with a bit of tartan would also work. Maybe avoid those cross body tartan sash though, they can look a bit naff.

God, not tartan trousers!! Jeez.

Was thinking well cut black trousers, a top with a sparkle - hip length, skimming over any lumpy bits, and maybe a tartan brooch...

Sorry, but that tartan dress is a bit much. I'd neevr wear it again.

No specific suggestions but consider the following:
Something cool, it’s very easy to overheat
Flat shoes that stay firmly on your feet (straps/laces are helpful)
Trousers would be fine but a swishy skirt adds to the fun if you like that kind of thing. I wouldn’t go for too long a skirt
Tops or dresses need to stay in place - you may be spinning around linking elbows with lots of people in quick succession so be wary of wraps, straps and ties

Your proposed outfit sounds fine - prioritise what you feel comfortable in and you’ll have a good time!
