Gel vs regular manicure

I've had 3 gel manicures now and the first two lasted ages but the latest one broke off - both the gel itself so some nails are bare, and the nails broke near or even below the bed.
Are you supposed to give your nails a rest from gel every so often?
I'm going back for a manicure this week so I wasn't sure what to get next.

Yes, you are. I think the gel is very drying. I had the same thing - nails fine for 2, broke after third :(

I have a gel overlay on my nails which lasts months with maintenance . I get a maintenance and fresh colour every three weeks. It's the only way I can have nails as I am a picker.

Yes you do need a break from gels. I find it drying too.
Although it doesn't affect my toenails in the same way.

I don't find the gel drying but I think the removal of them wrecks your nails. I have mine done and replaced about 3 times on the trot then I stop for a few months.

Good call. I'm going to get a regular manicure this week and then have a break once I've taken that one off.

I find I need a break too - I can go a few sessions then start to feel my nails are weaker/the gel doesn’t last as well as the nails break underneath.
