Wide leg trousers

BrassicaBabe · 12/01/2022 22:14

OMG I seem to have lost hours searching for a pair of wide leg trousers Shock They would be my first pair. Currently I live in girlfriend jeans.

I'm 5'7
Size 10
Closer to 50 than 40 Shock
Looking for casual but not "joggers" casual
Not cropped
Not black

Any recommendations would be hugely appreciative! SmileSmile

Mint velvet
Marks and spencers
Both have lovely wide leg trousers with a side stripe which is very on trend and stops them looking like work trousers

toastfiend · 12/01/2022 23:53

Cos have got some lovely wide leg trousers, I've been compiling a mental shopping list of all the things I want but can't buy this month and lots of their trousers were on it! You do have to have a bit of imagination when you look at them, though, as the styling on their website is mostly atrocious. I've got their current season checked wool wide leg trousers, though, and they're beautiful in the flesh and lovely to wear.

Geamhradh · 13/01/2022 05:51

M&S.
I have about 5 pairs of their wide leg jersey trousers and I can wear them both for work and for nipping to the shops. I think personally, the side stripe ones look more like joggers and wouldn't wear them to work though I do like them.

@toastfiend, can I hijack and ask how Cos sizing is? (And I agree about the absurd website!) Are they true to size or do a Next (if you're a 14, order an 8) or a Zara (if you're an 8 order a 14) Confused

KimDeals · 13/01/2022 06:04

Massimo Dutti? I got a pair there last autumn. In principle I love them… but yet to wear them!

@Geamhradh I find Cos come up large. Their size small equates to a size 10-12 according to their size guide and I'd agree with that. I'm a 10-12, generally a 12, and wear a medium everywhere else but medium swamps me in Cos and I need an XS in their oversized/looser stuff, usually. I'm small waisted and big hipped so their high waisted but looser on the hips trousers fit me best in a 10, their mid-waisted trousers fit me best as a 12. It's a bit all over the place, though. Generally I'd say to size down, overall!

Slingingcontest · 13/01/2022 11:47

I find M&S excellent. They have an elasticated waist but are actually a lot better cut than you might imagine (or they were as I haven't bought a pair for two years now) and they wash well. I will try and link if I can find them.

If you are going for palazzo pants, beware of tripping in them.

Yes, especially going downstairs!

Good to know, thank you! The one near me closed so it's all online now.

@Slingingcontest, midi skirts are bad for it too. I tripped going upstairs

Yes, stairs generally hazardous in palazzos! Smile

Meant to say earlier that the M&S ones linked used to be made in heavier, better fabric. They aren't bad now, but they are not as good as they once were. They are great for travel though as they hang very well and don't crease. Plus no need to iron!

I've got these in both black and navy and they are fabulous www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-jersey-wide-leg-trousers/navy/p4885726?sku=238305939&size=8&s_ppc=2dx92700056345449343&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=Cj0KCQiAuP-OBhDqARIsAD4XHpdwf2iUYxa5UaQE--2mJriGsNO48z_1lJfj_6R3gVrUqYrEfsmulmoaAhJWEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Although they're jersey they are smart enough (for me) to wear to work, maybe with a belt and a jacket.

I've also bought the JL Anyday version in khaki and while they lovely, they're not as smart casual as the above.

Take a look in Coast and H&M, Zara do them in the summer, also occasionally in river island.

twotrickpony · 15/01/2022 12:19

If your budget stretches, these are fantastic. I wear them all the time, both for work (top/shirt tucked in), and at home. They're incredibly comfy and have a really wide waistband that folds over so you can adjust the height of the wait/length of the legs a bit. They wash (& tumble dry) well too.

You’re triggering me — I’m the person who watches the Great Pottery Throwdown between her fingers, expecting every second that Rose (kiln firer, wears long skirts) will crash down the spiral stairs carrying a bisque-fired load. Grin

SnoopyMcLoopy · 15/01/2022 16:39

I bought some from Cos in the sale recently. They are jumbo cord and very flattering although I'm only 5'3" and they would be too short on anyone over 5'5"

SnoopyMcLoopy · 15/01/2022 16:41

@Geamhradh yes Cos come up large - I'm a 10 but bought an 8. Asked them if they had a 6 (that was pre Christmas indulgence though), they didn't and now I'm quite glad 😀

Slingingcontest · 16/01/2022 21:49

Roosk I hope Rose made it through tonight's episode ; I haven't seen it yet Grin

Brassicababe hope M&S trews don't disappoint (it's always a bit nerve-wracking recommending things!) and I've only ever bought them in navy & black... here's hoping ok anyway ... !

HandyGirl76 · 21/01/2022 17:46

I would totally recommend the M&S ones, I have them in pink and wear them with my Vejas. I get lots of compliments...
