What are your most ostentatious, posh beauty buys?

I'm a wanker for buying really luxury beauty products from time to time. I have a Benefit mascara and Jo Malone perfumes, I LOVE the scents. I also recently got a body cream from Jo Malone, I need to stop now for a while. What are your most luxury, pretentious, posh beauty buys?

I'm on beauty no-buy right now, but my stupid expensive buys are probably Sunday Riley face oils.

Stiffcondomhat · 12/01/2022 14:18

I don't know if it counts as posh by mn standards but estee lauder advanced night repair. No dupes come close!

IvorCutler · 12/01/2022 14:23

Most of my makeup is ‘luxury’ brands. I’m a sucker and I’m sure I could get things just as nice on a budget. Chanel mascara is my favourite. I think the whole idea of luxury cosmetics (from fashion houses) is just a ploy to make people think they’re buying into a designer lifestyle (when they’re really not).

Sort0f · 12/01/2022 14:24

I had a thing for Rahua hair products for a while.

IvorCutler · 12/01/2022 14:25

I should add that I do not have a designer lifestyle and I’m not looking down on people. I’m clearly one of those people.

Redcrayons · 12/01/2022 14:27

In my younger, pre children, living at home, with all the disposable income days, I was quite the slave to Clarins.
I used to go to the House of Fraser beauty department once a week in my lunch hour. They saw me coming.

My most ridiculous thing was anti ageing décolletage cream. I was about 22.

I still do love the multi active night cream, but everything else is from Aldi or Boots now.

PearlD · 12/01/2022 14:35

Aesop, but refuse to buy it for myself so it's a Christmas and Birthday thing!

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/01/2022 14:38

I used to collect Estee Lauder powder compacts. I started with the pink ribbon ones but then expanded to all sorts of bejeweled designs. I'm not a glam person at all, but they brought me joy.

I still want a Scorpio one, just thinking about it brings me joy!

God loads
But my wankiest product is a “candle” from neom that you burn until you have a little pool of melted wax/oil and once it’s slightly cooled you use it as an intensive moisturiser

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/01/2022 14:43

@Thinkle WHAT?! I need this. Also it's a candle, so maybe I can get around my beauty no-buy.

@IvorCutler I mean, you only have one body, so if you're going to splurge on something it might as well to be put on said body. That's what I tell myself anyway.

Feedingthebirds1 · 12/01/2022 14:43

Alterna caviar shampoo and conditioner (not always - sometimes it's Tresemme!). My excuse is that they really do suit my hair.

That does sound terribly wanky Grin
PattyPan · 12/01/2022 14:51

Recently bought mascara and blusher from Zao which is more expensive than what I used to spend although I don’t think it counts as posh. Pretty wanky in refillable bamboo pots though and the blusher is really beautiful. I also just spent £18 on a pack of 27 compostable hair ties from the Eden Project shop which is pretty high end pricing for hair ties 😂

Sunday Riley face oils are never stupid!

I'm also on a no buy, but my big £89 bottle of Fresh Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence still has plenty in it - I love the stuff even though I have no idea what it actually does Confused.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 12/01/2022 14:57

Slip silk hair bobbles
Ouai hand wash
Innersense hair products
Ridiculously expensive candles
Verso eye serum

KiloWhat · 12/01/2022 16:29

Chanel Lip Balm..clear.

Pointless but I was young!

I’ve been hovering over the wellness pod for ages but this seems a lot more up my wanky street.
lindyloo57 · 12/01/2022 17:23

I have channel cream bronzer, estee lauder advanced night repair, which I got in a Christmas box, it was around £37. Including a mascara and the bb cream, the bb cream has no coverage at all, and the night repair feels nothing special, but the mascara is great, no smudging at all. The bb cream is around £40 on its own so was good value , just wish it had more coverage.

Innocenta · 12/01/2022 17:35

Le Labo shower oil and conditioner. Not that bad, but not cheap!
I have a lot of high end scent, but a fair bit of it was given to me rather than bought, so not sure if that counts.
Otherwise, I guess my Hourglass and Charlotte Tilbury bits - not the priciest out there, but very expensive for me. Grin

uggmum · 12/01/2022 17:37

I buy a lot of 'living proof' hair products.
I also use Origin products on my face and body

Also like some l'occitane body oil.

Not necessarily posh but great quality

Thinkle · 12/01/2022 17:46

@Redcrayons there is a multi buy box on offer with the mini wellness pod, the wanky candle and some other slightly less wanky products. That’s how I came by mine

Daisy829 · 12/01/2022 17:48

Estée Lauder & Jo Malone user here. Off to check out wanky neom products…..
I have actually been eyeing up the neom diffuser recently. It’s down to £135 with some oils.

I was recently bought this as a gift, what is it supposed to do? I can't stand the smell and am not entirely sure how best to use it?
ShirleyPhallus · 12/01/2022 17:54

Le Labo perfume which is a bargain at £200 per bottle. However, I’ll fight anyone who says it isn’t the best smell in the world
