Help! Any nail strengtheners that actually work?

I’ve got terribly week nails as soon as they are over finger length they bend and split and peel. I’m desperate to get them nice and strong.
I also have grim thick cuticles that never look neat and tidy!
Can anyone recommend any products that actually do the job?

My nails were like yours op, until I started a high strength Biotin supplement. It has really helped - my nails are strong now and no longer split or break

bellabride · 12/01/2022 17:46

I've had great results using the Hard As Hoof cream; bought it on Amazon.

Nailtiques combined with Perfectil for nails were always my go to but I can't find Nailtiques anywhere in Ireland or online.

ponkydonkey · 12/01/2022 18:00

Protein and good fats are your friend here (eating them)

But failing that
Sally Hansen vit c nail hardener is exactly what you are looking for

Make sure you file your nails properly! No see sawing
One direction into the middle of each nail

Or clip them and file the sharp edges.

@Onynx @Cluckycluck @Ohsugarhoneyicetea I managed to purchase Nailtiques about 6 months ago. I bought 3 bottles just in case. I would imagine covid has put a spanner in the works somewhat but they have started making it again. I just kept checking online and lo and behold there it was.

Yangste56 · 13/01/2022 17:57

Nailtiques formula 2 without doubt.

threatmatrix · 13/01/2022 18:00

I don’t have any nails if I stop ding opi nail envy. The original is the best.

userxx · 13/01/2022 18:10

@eagerlywaitingfor

Lacura nail hardener from Aldi - cheap as chips and it works well for me.

Didn't know lacura did a nail hardener. I'll look out for it !

Daisydoor12 · 13/01/2022 18:25

Nail nurse via Amazon. Nails are so strong.

Onynx · 13/01/2022 19:25

Oh thanks a million @JerkintheMerkin - I'll start looking again- that's great news!!

JerkintheMerkin · 13/01/2022 20:02

@Onynx I paid the normal price for it as well.

CockysGirl · 13/01/2022 22:39

I love The Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Overnight Manicure Butter - my nails are noticeably stronger and longer.

Twilight7777 · 13/01/2022 22:42

Nail magic from Amazon, it’s in a small pink bottle

any particular collagen tablets

AnotherMansCause · 15/01/2022 14:29

Good varied diet with plenty of protein.
Or, at least take a good quality nail & hair vitamin & a collagen supplement.
Either way, use a decent quality hand & nail cream daily - one based on vegetable oils or beeswax, not mineral oils. It doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive. Make sure you rub it in right around the nails. I do this just before bed as well as during the day & my cuticles are much improved.

ThatLibraryMiss · 15/01/2022 14:31

I tried everything I could find: vitamins, collagen, Solar oil, jojoba oil, various moisturisers, Nailtiques, Mavala, Nail Envy and more. The only thing that has ever stopped my nails cracking and breaking below the free edge is an overlay of some sort. These days I do my own gels.

AshLane · 15/01/2022 14:40

A good diet.

Mine have never been better, in fact never long at all.
I've added nuts everyday to my cereal and have it with almond milk. I occasionally rub in some coconut oil to each nail.

Never before have I had to cut my nails because they are so long.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 15/01/2022 14:49

Nailtiques formula 2

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 15/01/2022 14:49

@youhadmeatjello

I had brittle nails for years, then I moved to a sunny country and started taking iron and vitamin c supplements. Now they’re hard as, well, nails. Try vitamin d, c & iron.

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 15/01/2022 14:53

I definitely give a 'thumbs-up' to Nail Envy as long as you use it as directed and then maintain your nails.

I also noticed that since taking a multivitamin they have started to grow more.
