Repairing coat lining/ general repair tips thread?

Hi all, I want to try and fix a coat lining and wondered whether any of you stylish and beautiful people might know how I can do it? It's not just a tear, looks like there is a section that has been torn out. Maybe I can patch it somehow?

Also seeing as many of us are doing no/low spend on S and B these days, would people be interested in a general repair tips thread?

A patch is probably your best bet.

Repairing is good. I wore a pair of vintage boots at the weekend and the sole fell off one. I walked home with it strapped in place. I'll be going to the cobblers at the weekend

With a coat lining - you can stitch it or get a mender's to do it. sometimes replacing the whole lining might be an option. A patch might be ok but you might be able to sew this.

A general repair tips thread would be good. I've got so much I need to repair!

Usually lining goes at the seams, in which case its an easy mend. I would patch it personally.
I'm currently trying to work out how to remove stitched in unfashionably wide shoulderpads from a beautiful wool/ cashmere coat and wondering if it will sit right if I do.
It may be worth me paying a professional I think.

You could find a similar shade lining in a good part of a different item you no longer use, and patch with that. I recently repaired a coat lining for someone, not that I'm an expert by any means. I unpicked the seam near the tear, so that I could get behind it . I'd still do that for a patch, as you would get nester stitching. Or ask a repairer or local tailor to do it for you? If you're keen to save money, the local charity shop may have something cheap with suitable lining for raiding? Or buy half a metre on eBay.

I've got a 30 yo cashmere coat that I've patched the lining on several times. I usually cut the lining out of any coat or jacket that is being thrown away and save it for repairs.

The coat itself still looks new but the lining is a proper patchwork now!
