anyone else find coats really tricky?

I'm a short, plus size (18-20) apple shape - aged 47
I find coats so hard to find!
Any other apples find the same?
I really like a minimal look - but also want to be fashionable- but I can never seem to get the latest coat fashion in time

So currently I am looking for an oversized, light quilted long coat but I feel like I am behind the trend- if you are on trend- how do you know what coats/ shoes to get?
Are there certain places I can look so I can go into Winter 2022 feeling current?

try Seasalt. Won't be fashion but you'll get a good coat

crochetmonkey74 · 10/01/2022 13:03

Yeah quite like Seasalt- but I want to be more on trend with my coats and footwear- as I have noticed that these are the things that make you look current I think

I'm just never sure exactly how to find out the trends- maybe I am being really thick

try Asos, Boohoo.com or NewLook.co they have an excellent range . you think its all aimed at young teenagers but there are loads of options in larger sizes and definitely on trend. I have picked up some great pieces from here.

@crochetmonkey74 😀 Your thread has blown my mind. I think you must be my doppelganger. I am short, size 18 born in '74 and am learning to crochet!

I too find coats difficult. I'm not sure I've ever had one that was flattering or fashionable. I currently have a navy Regatta coat that's warm and keeps the rain off.

Sorry I don't have any good suggestions.

I do use these sites- but how do you know which ones are the fashionable ones? Currently ASOS have practically every coat you can imagine

I know what you mean, but all you have to do is look up whats this seasons fashion, or next seasons fashion, Or choose someone famous you like with a similar shape to you ,look up what they are wearing and go from there. And then replicate it with a High Street Brand.
I am 55, 5ft 5 and a size 14 bottom 16 top. I love boots with a biker chunky sole, Jeans blue or black. a padded jacket long, or waist length as i am short waisted. and I try to stick to a colour palette that will mix and match. Blacks, cream, navys , khaki. you can add into that some animal print, which goes well with denim and different jewellery. I love fashion and always try to stay within the latest fashion but what suits me.
Hope this helps.

Yeah I could be over thinking it I guess

I think with my size and shape- I have a tendency to feel that I look frumpy
