Refreshingly realistic mid size model Phase Eight?

Was just browsing for a swimsuit and came across this model. Thought it was nice to see as plus size models normally seem to be very curvaceous, big breasts, small waists… the ones I’ve seen anyway.

M&S is doing some great “normal” body shots too

www.marksandspencer.com/c/style-and-living/lingerie-with-added-feelgood-factor

Those sheer JL pants are very odd, they’re too small for her and then have airbrushed out any pubes

@WhoppingBigBackside

I noticed when I looked at a site where the clothes were shown on a tall slim very pretty young woman of colour that my thought was 'well they wouldn't suit a short unattractive middle aged pale grey haired woman'.

Some sites use young very plus-sized models and I find it off-putting because I don't think that obesity should be normalised. Generally, people can do something about their weight.

The Lucy&Yak site shows the clothes on different models, and I think 'the clothes are for anyone who wants to wear it'.

I haven't seen a site with a wheelchair user, but I'm sure lots of wheelchair users still want to look attractive and stylish

Clothes are for wearing. Big people wear them. Small people wear them. It's not normalising obesity because obesity IS normal. It's not healthy but it is normal. Clothes are to cover bodies. Not make moral statements about public health.

Oh, and snag tights have a model that is a wheelchair user. Saw the advert just yesterday. Love seeing this trend for diversity in modelling, long may it continue.

That's great!!

There's a US clothing brand (mostly outdoor stuff) that I like that not only uses varying size models but also tells you the model's height, weight, and what size she's wearing in the picture. And the pictures are very 'clear' showing how the model is 'built' (ie, larger/smaller in the hips, waist, etc). It's really helpful to those of us who may be a bit 'out of proportion'.

steppemum · 08/01/2022 17:23

Those JL knickers are awful.
The model is wearing a size too small as well.

steppemum · 08/01/2022 17:43

on M&S they say how tall the model is and what size she is wearing.

very helpful for things like pyjama bottoms

Notwithittoday · 08/01/2022 19:03

Slightly less positive. I showed the pics to my mum and she was very disparaging. Why are mums so critical ?!

No pubic hair though …

timeforteaforyouandme · 08/01/2022 19:33

When I was growing up (70s/80s) catalogues were full of more average looking models as opposed to fashion models on catwalks/magazines.

I like it when you can select a model in your size to see how it looks (modibodi do this up to an 18 I think) I also like it when they put the models height and size in the blurb

I keep getting this ad. Sorry, I think it looks awful - at least, it doesn't make me want to replicate the look!

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 01:21

@Warmduscher

is it a problem that she doesn't have pubic hair ?

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 01:28

@Wagsandclaws

I can remember when she modelled for Evans so I think most of her work ( and this is a while back ) would have been plus size.

Anyone seen the viral tick tok thing about the regular size model who is asked to bring fat padding to bulk out for plus size clothing labels.

Apparently she said that they prefer a slim neck and face and smaller waist but big hips, boobs ( put never stomach ) 🙄

Like this which is one of the admired and sought after body types now ?

I noticed quite a few brands featuring models in the 12-16 size range. A few years ago along Tall Sally did that and I wrote to them saying I really appreciated it. But they never used them again!
It really help to see what clothes might look like. It also helps when they give the height and size of a particular model - I notice a number of shorter ones (5' 7") around.

Did I say it was a problem?

JimCarreysMask · 09/01/2022 02:17

ASOS have a wide range of models all shapes and sizes, stretch marks, saggy boobs, hearing aids etc. it’s great! I just wish there was a model with a flat arse now and the. So I could picture myself Sad

It's sad that a size 14 woman is considered outside the norm when it comes to -buying- selling clothes

UserBot989 · 09/01/2022 11:21

That boux model looks totally out of proportion like she's either had lipo on her tummy and surgery to make her hips wider Confused

I'm not body shaming, it looks like something surgical has gone on.

Yeh, and it's a con, because if a 5'1'' woman is buying a size 14 then that might be outsize for her but by using a 5'11 model who is size 14 they are still showing a slim woman.
Notwithittoday · 09/01/2022 11:27

Yes the boux model looks suspect. The ones on boohoo are the same. I’m on a few American surgery fb groups and it’s frightening what they have to do to get that look. They have several rounds of surgery to keep taking more and more off the waist and adding to the hips and ass. I had my breasts done and I seriously regret it now so can’t imagine what these girls will feel like with all that done

@Warmduscher

Can you explain what you meant by the word "though " ?

"No pubic hair though....."

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 11:30

Or why you even felt the need to comment on it at all ?

The irony.
SirVixofVixHall · 09/01/2022 11:57

I really like this, seeing clothes on a range of sizes and ages. Swedish company Gudrun Sjoden have always done this.
It is so much healthier than only seeing clothes on extremely thin and extremely young women.

IamGusFring · 09/01/2022 12:01

@Warmduscher trying to be "clever" and avoiding the fact that you did make a judgemental comment ? The whole thread is about the positivity of using real life models in whatever shape or form they come . Such a shame that you can't see that in your one comment.
