Refreshingly realistic mid size model Phase Eight?

Was just browsing for a swimsuit and came across this model. Thought it was nice to see as plus size models normally seem to be very curvaceous, big breasts, small waists… the ones I’ve seen anyway.

I definitely wouldn't buy them. If they look that uncomfortable on a model...

Lifeisnteasy · 08/01/2022 14:43

She looks great in the bikini. I’ve noticed more average sized models lately, very helpful as you can better imagine how the clothes would look on you.

Wagsandclaws · 08/01/2022 14:45

I can remember when she modelled for Evans so I think most of her work ( and this is a while back ) would have been plus size.

Anyone seen the viral tick tok thing about the regular size model who is asked to bring fat padding to bulk out for plus size clothing labels.

Apparently she said that they prefer a slim neck and face and smaller waist but big hips, boobs ( put never stomach ) 🙄

whosaidtha · 08/01/2022 14:45

She looks great but I still wish they would use a range of different heights. Im 5ft and I've never seen a model even close to that. They all seem to be 5ft 8+. Clothes definitely sit different on short women than tall.

Wagsandclaws · 08/01/2022 14:52

@whosaidtha I agree but sadly there are hardly any diminutive models ( unless they are modelling petite sizes )

doadeer · 08/01/2022 14:54

She looks fab. Wish more companies would have models like this

Positiveyearaheadplease · 08/01/2022 14:59

I am more shocked at the £18 for those sheer pants!

Also agree they are too small for her.

steppemum · 08/01/2022 15:03

love this, as it shows how it would look on me, which is whatI wnat to know.

Lovely bikinis.
Might need to go shopping....

lollipoprainbow · 08/01/2022 15:07

Lovely what a refreshing change.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2022 15:10

Lovely to see 'normal' people - but those JL knickers are definitely too small.

itsnotswimming · 08/01/2022 15:11

Lululemon use incredibly diverse models, different heights, sizes, amputees etc..
It's so nice seeing the products on different types of women and it really shows they are for everyone.

TheHoptimist · 08/01/2022 15:18

@Wigeon

Does it say what size she is? She looks like a size 12 to me - rather sad that that probably counts as plus size! Flat stomach, no fat round her face, probably within the healthy BMI range.
she looks a 16
HereticFanjo · 08/01/2022 15:23

Those are genuinely helpful pictures! Good job Phase Eight 👏

WhoppingBigBackside · 08/01/2022 15:28

I noticed when I looked at a site where the clothes were shown on a tall slim very pretty young woman of colour that my thought was 'well they wouldn't suit a short unattractive middle aged pale grey haired woman'.

Some sites use young very plus-sized models and I find it off-putting because I don't think that obesity should be normalised. Generally, people can do something about their weight.

The Lucy&Yak site shows the clothes on different models, and I think 'the clothes are for anyone who wants to wear it'.

I haven't seen a site with a wheelchair user, but I'm sure lots of wheelchair users still want to look attractive and stylish

3luckystars · 08/01/2022 15:30

Lovely.

And nice to see her smiling too.

D0lphine · 08/01/2022 15:32

Nice to see someone who looks normal.

Models tend to be either traditional skinny size 6/8. Or the plus size models are size 22 and only a very specific hourglass shape.

D0lphine · 08/01/2022 15:33

I think some companies are copping on to the fact that consumers want to know how clothing will look on them as opposed to a teenage very skinny / teenage very large hourglass

SleepingStandingUp · 08/01/2022 15:41

Generally, people can do something about their weight. you know I still need to wear clothes tho? No one wants to see my size 20 body flobbing around naked or in badly fitted clothes because you've decided I don't have a right to look nice because it's my own fault in fat?

Well said.
SleepingStandingUp · 08/01/2022 16:03

Lucy and Yak are amazing for their model diversity, but clearly that goes into the costs 😱. Middle Class clothes?? Wrong thread 😂

chessycurls · 08/01/2022 16:04

She is actually not that realistic although looks great & it's always good to show diversity.

She's 5ft 10 with a 30" waist & 43" hips so she will look very different to the average size 14.

& people say we have lost sight of normal size! most people massively underestimate the camera vs real life. Hence why most reactions to celebs in real life is "they were so tiny".

SleepingStandingUp · 08/01/2022 16:12

I do think that young, very large plus-sized models normalise obesity to some extentyeah I prefer plus sized people to be filled with a sense of self loathing and to understand they're societal freaks who should hate themselves thin. As opposed to young people having better mental health around their bodies which will help them feel more able to make positive changes to their lives which may result in weight loss through health changes
