Where can I get trousers like PJs but for outside the house

I love being comfortable, it's basically my favourite thing.

I mainly wear dresses with leggings as they are the most comfortable option for me. I'm not a fan of tracksuit bottoms, but I do love wearing pyjama bottoms at home. I usually wear the brushed cotton sort that don't stretch. They don't have a thick uncomfy waistband and they aren't tight around the waist. I don't actually even look bad with just a straight leg trouser.

Does an equivalent exist that I could buy to wear out the house? The comfy waist is the key thing as I suffer from IBS and just can't bear being constricted.

Please help me wise MNers!

I am so glad I asked, thank you everyone! Will be spending today doing some good browsing, loads of places I would never have thought of or never knew about :)

I have a sensitive tummy since my c-sections and have done this. There are quite a few shops now offering nice-looking trousers with comfortable elasticated waistbands, that still look like normal trousers. Here are so examples, it really depends on whether you need them for eg a smart office, or smart casual / everyday, and your budget:

I have several from Toast, some have interesting shapes, others are basically straight or skinny trousers. Not cheap but the ones I have have lasted years. One example (but they have many other styles): www.toa.st/collections/womens-trousers/products/brushed-cotton-linen-trousers-off-black

COS and Arket also do lots of elasticated waste trousers, whole range of smart casual styles, these ones are good:
www.cosstores.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/trousers/culottes/product.elasticated-culottes-black.1051011001.html

I wear these to work: www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/trousers/product.wool-hopsack-trousers-black.1029578001.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhMTRvvCh9QIVBWHmCh3DVQj0EAQYBCABEgLQbPD_BwE

I also bought a very nice pair from Fold for smart events and meetings, they are very expensive but look super smart and you couldn’t tell about the waist. I wear them with blazers etc.: thefoldlondon.com/product/ultimate-wool-slim-leg-elasticated-trousers-black/

They have hand washed well despite saying dry clean only.

Ps. I also have IBS. Wearing these outside the house and for work had made a big difference to comfort levels and my confidence.

What tops do you wear with the L&Y Alexas? I wear their jumpsuits but wondered if the trousers would make me look stumpy as I'm 5' and hourglass with biggish hips.

I live in straight leg yoga pants. Not keen on the cuffed ones.

Next usually have something

Tessy Red Buttons joggers look decent and are definitely okay for wearing to the supermarket and errands. Two independent boutiques stock them locally, but they sell out very quickly.

I buy black jazz pants from a ballet store - they are really comfortable and as they are a sort of bootleg shape they are also flattering.

JustLikea · 09/01/2022 11:22

I bought these for work but they're really comfortable and can easily be worn out and about

[quote ChristmasAdam]Duns baggy pants are the comfiest ever. They come either plain or in all sorts of prints. They feel like PJs as the cotton is sooo soft.

Another vote for Duns baggies. @ChristmasAdam radishes??

Place marking- DD has IBS and only wears joggers...but she's getting to the age where people start to look archly at her outfits Sad

gunnersgold · 09/01/2022 12:05

Magic joggers ! Soo comfy!

molyro · 09/01/2022 18:08

Wildclouds.com have organic cotton and linen lounge trousers, which can we worn as PJs or out and about. They are so comfy and really well made. Also love their jumpsuits. And Lucy and Yak dungerees.

M snd s do some plain wide legged jersey trousers, very comfortable

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/01/2022 22:05

@missmoon I just ordered those Arket trousers - how are they size/length-wise? I’m currently watching Stay Close on Netflix and inspired by the main character’s wardrobe fancy them with a black polo neck and white trainers!

I’m 5ft 6, usually a 10, and have ordered the 36 and 38 to try.

These are great, you have to check back often as they sell out. It's worth looking as they are so comfy and great price. If only I can get a size 10 again!

Try these…

Loungewear that can be dressed up or down, handmade to order in the U.K.

missmoon · 09/01/2022 22:19

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I’m 5ft 7 and they are just perfect lengthwise for wearing with flats. You can also adjust the length slightly by tightening or loosening the drawcord at the waist, so they sit higher or lower.

I think mine are size 40, I’m size 14 in other brands. I hope they fit, I have them in two colours!

Sexnotgender · 09/01/2022 22:20

Seraphine maternity trousers. I’m 9 months postpartum and have lost all my baby weight but still wearing these as they’re so comfortable 😂

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/01/2022 22:22

Sounds great @missmoon! I think the 36 is 10 and 38 is 12 - I have a lot of knitwear from Arket but it tends to be S/M/L. I’ll report back!
