Long evening dresses - the type you see in Bond films

I fell in love with a long sparkly beaded evening dress in All Good Things. As the price was very cheap I bought it.

But now I’m wondering when I will ever wear it. I’ve been to more than a few formal Black Tie events and dinners and it is too OTT for any of those. I’m unlikely to get invited to a film premier Grin.

My question to you lovely fashionistas is when do we get to wear those dresses? Unless I can find a Bond themed evening it’s going to be sat on my dress mannequin looking gorgeous but unworn.

If you can't find an occasion, I'd create one! Could you host a cocktail party? Bond/"glam"/"dressed to the nines" theme?

Go on a cruise (once things are a bit more normal of course) - you can dress like this every night!

Can you show the photo of the dress ? Would be easier to give suggestions... also just a thought: have a photoshoot wearing this dress. Beautiful dresses look great photographed in unusual settings: woodlands, middle of a field...
If done properly could be a nice image to look at or display.

I’m part Indian and part Romany so I wear my film premier dresses at weddings / family get togethers / christenings. I do agree with a pp that you have to create your opportunity - I usually just message my family and friends in advance during the planning stage to say lets wear our posh frocks.

I can’t find the exact dress online but the top is like the picture with beads and sequins draping across the upper arms, and the lower section is similar to the off the shoulder long sleeved dress. So imagine the top half of one combined with the lower half of the other.

I used to go to lots of black tie events…first at uni and then through work. My current job doesn’t have posh parties so my black tie wardrobe is languishing rather. So, my suggestion is find a job where you need them! Anything with posh fundraising/client entertain for armed forces related would be my bets!

I go to social dances. Long evening dresses can be worn at the ones at Christmas and other special dances. I also wear them at an annual dinner dance.

I have something really similar to the first dress & wear it for normal dinners out with dh Grin. I do dress it down with flats or wedge sandals & keep my hair loose so the beads aren’t as prominent.

What a stunning dress ! Definitely needs to be taken out.
Any big birthdays or anniversaries coming up? Make a theme to celebrate and wear the dress.

stunning dress, I brought the mint velvet silver sequin midi skirt in the sale, it was such a bargain from £110 down to £39, I'm trying to think how can I wear it casually.

Wagsandclaws · 05/01/2022 17:55

@lindyloo57 if you use Instagram there are a lot of influencers who west sequins causally. Think trainers or chunky boots and an oversized cashmere jumper Smile

Cor, that's lush. I feel your pain. I bought a long green sequinned dress just before Christmas that makes me feel like Rita Hayworth, but no idea where I'll wear it. And they was before all my Christmas parties were cancelled.

You need to go on a smart cruise. It's the perfect dress.

FlickyCrumble · 05/01/2022 18:12

Buy your own tickets to a premier. Walk the red carpet and pretend to be famous.

JustLikea · 05/01/2022 19:27

There will be fancy charity events in your area that are black tie so look those up

GettingStuffed · 05/01/2022 20:38

I follow a youtuber who orders stuff off the internet and wears an outstanding dress ( not always beautiful) to dinner at the cheesecake factory.

she'll chose to order the 10 worst sellers from a particular retailer or copies of movie dresses or job lots of evening dresses.
