Had a baby 16 months ago and I promised myself 2022 will be the year when I make a bigger effort to look after myself the way I used to before having a baby, maybe even more. I am desperate to upgrade my make up bag and I want to try and put make up on every day and have a well established skincare routine (I am doing that already but not as consistent as I'd like to be).
I am working from home at the moment, that's when I find it harder to get the extra motivation as nobody sees me (although I do have quite a few zoom calls).
Are you the type of person who wears lipstick every day even if just at home? I used to wear red lips fairly often during the weekend but not much on week days - Now I am looking for a fairly neutral but "interesting" shade I can wear most days. I love the Charlotte Tilbury ones

God I could have written your post myself. I have a 17 month old and I barely spend anytime on myself now. I used to get my hair done and always wear lipsticks and have a good skin routine but that's all gone out the window. I did try charlotte tilbury pillow talk but found it a bit dark for me, I have pale skin.

BusterGonad · 04/01/2022 14:43

I hardly ever wear make up but I love it, and have soooo much. If I were you I'd buy some Clinique chubby sticks or the Revlon dupes. Balm thingys. I wore make up a few days ago as we went out for lunch. I wore Clinique even better glow foundation. Some shimmery taupe eyeshadow by Lunasol (Japanese brand) some cream blusher and Clinique colour pop lipstick in Plum pop. It all looked very nice and quite casual

BusterGonad · 04/01/2022 14:51

I do also like red lipsticks, I currently have 2 Lancome Ruby creams, one in Pidgean blood red (burgundy red) and Rubiez (rich red) both a cream consistency. I also have Mac Ruby Woo. Very look at me and hard to apply. My other favourite is Clinique colour pop in Poppy pop. It's bright yet casual and is a corally red. Very nice to wear. Another favourite at the moment is Lancome Berry Noir. A dark berry shade. More of a plum/blackberry than a red.

I find i wear benetint the most since the pandemic as being masked up means lipstick smudges off.

My routine is fairly extensive and I used to wear makeup daily when WFH...but I just gave up after a while =P

Suqqu Foundation/makeup forever matte velvet skin powder foundation
becca highlighter
nars orgasm liquid blush
milk makeup matte bronzer (cheekbones)
beauty pie eyeshadow stick (or random eyeshadow palette- Using the Charlotte tilbury pillow talk palette my Mum got me)
beauty pie liquid eyeliner
loreal mascara
brow pencil
charlotte tilbury bronze and glow/charlotte tilbury blusher (just to set the liquid contour/blush/highlighter)
Beauty pie setting spray
benetint

I don't actually love charlotte tilbury except for their cushion contour ( out of stock now) and their mini bronze and glow, but i use a lot of CT makeup because they were gifts. I really love suqqu foundation (but its £££).

I would say for a simple look - bb cream/tinted moisturizer; eyeliner, cream eyeshadow stick, a bit of highlighter and blush and mascara and some lipstick would be good.

@BusterGonad thank you, I know most of the Clinique products you mentioned, they are great. I never heard of Lunasol though, will check it out.

@onlychildhamster great products :)

@Bustergonad, I use Clinique Even Better Glow foundation, it is expensive but I find its worth it as it lasts a long a time, do you find it the same?

I do like it, I have the Even Better one too. It does last well and it suits my normal to dry skin. 2 others I like are Lancome teint miracle hydrating foundation and Lancome teint idole foundation. Teint idole is long lasting and leaves a satin finish but nothing as drying and thick as Estee Lauder double wear.

KiloWhat · 05/01/2022 07:56

Chanel long wear lipstick, it's double ended. stays on forever.

Deathraystare · 05/01/2022 19:34

I always wear lipstick or tinted lip balm whether I am working or not. Plus even if going nowhere I have to draw in some eyebrows! If it is a work day and I have to wear a mask obvs, I now wear a tinted moisturiser instead of foundation. I rarely wear blusher now because of the mask, but do wear eye make up. I like to wear eye liner as my features seem to have paled considerably, and mascara. I wear eye make up when I have the time/can be bothered.

AcatcalledCat · 05/01/2022 19:47

I wear makeup most days but add eyeshadow and eyeliner when I’m going “out out”

My daily routine is:

  • [ ] Estée Lauder double wear - just a pea sized amount with a beauty blender goes a long way!
  • [ ] L’Oréal more than concealer for under eyes
  • [ ] Charlotte tilbury contour wand
  • [ ] Dr paw paw multipurpose balm for blush
  • [ ] Charlotte tilbury highlighter
  • [ ] Laura mercier candlelight setting powder
  • [ ] Mac mascara
  • [ ] Maybelline eyebrow pencil - micro
  • [ ] Charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick
ChocolateRiver · 05/01/2022 20:14

For work today I wore:
Bobbi Brown corrector
Bobbi Brown foundation stick
Maybelline concealer
L’Oréal eyebrow pencil
Benefit eyebrow clear gel
Beauty pie one powder wonder under eyes and t-zone
Hourglass dim light powder
Trinny eyeshadow (empress)
Lancôme hypnose mascara
Dior blush in a shade 277 (bright, fresh pink)
Clinique highlighter stick (tiny bit)
Burts Bees rose tinted lip balm
Sounds like a lot now it’s written down but it doesn’t look a lot when on. I’ve got dark brown hair, fair skin and bluish/green eyes.

ChocolateRiver · 05/01/2022 20:18

I really like the Chanel rouge coco flash lipsticks. The shade swing is one of my favourites. It’s a pinky, berry sort of colour and lovely for autumn/winter. The lipsticks are really moisturising which I like and you can wear it quite bold or blotted down.

Liverbird77 · 05/01/2022 20:24

I like Clinique, although it doesn't stay on very long!
My favourite is Bobbi Brown.

GettingStuffed · 05/01/2022 20:44

I'm a lot older than you and have recently started wearing make up on a regular basis. I have wine of these www.cultbeauty.co.uk/milk-makeup-mini-lip-cheek/13320295.html and it makes looking put together easy. It's buildable so you can wear as little or as much as you need..

The only problem atm is transfer onto masks.

Marghe87 · 06/01/2022 19:36

@GettingStuffed didn’t know this brand! Going to check it out :)

@ChocolateRiver been lusting after hourglass powders for a long time, are they worth the £££??

I have just started mat leave (and now feel like a lumpy plain potato) but I often used to wear red MAC liquid lipstick for work calls. Even if I hadn't done my eyes or hair people used to comment on how 'put together' I looked. I think it gave the illusion of more effort than I made.

Now if I put on lipstick it's usually mac velvet teddy which is a bit more low key and almost the same colour as my actual lips.
