Is my perfume fake?

I was pleased to find a perfume I used to love and thought had been discontinued. It doesn't smell quite like I remember and looking online I realise it was discontinued so I guess I've bought a copy/fake version....which could have anything in it??

What's the perfume called?
Where did you buy ?
Contact the seller

IsolaPribby · 03/01/2022 15:41

Where did you buy it? It could be old stock.

Januarybuzz · 03/01/2022 15:41

Calvin Klein Truth. Bought from Amazon.

It's probably just old
Was it part used?

Thatsplentyjack · 03/01/2022 15:43

It could be that it's because it's old? I have a chanel one that seems to have changed smell.

Thatsplentyjack · 03/01/2022 15:43

Was it brand new?

Januarybuzz · 03/01/2022 15:43

No. It's new. Looks fine. I'll tell myself it's old stock, that feels better!

Was it sold by Amazon or a third party?
Marketplace unfortunately is quite well known for selling fakes. If it was a lot cheaper than you'd expect, and the seller has a lot to sell, I'd be suspicious.

Januarybuzz · 03/01/2022 15:48

It was discontinued a long time so could be very old and that might be why it's different. Or my memory is not quite correct

I was more concerned what might be in it if it was fake.

It was cheaper than it should have been.

I had a dodgy Del Boy uncle who sold fake french perfumes when I was a child. All perfectly packaged. I should know better!

What a shame. Have you checked the batch code? You can use this site m.checkcosmetic.net/

It may just have been stored incorrectly. The good thing is Amazon will definitely refund you!

Olliesocks · 03/01/2022 16:25

Contact Amazon for a refund.

Lucked · 03/01/2022 16:29

Who was the actual seller?

if it was actually sold by Amazon it is probably okay but I have had fake perfumes from Amazon - nightmare if seller is abroad as you can’t send it back by Royal Mail as they won’t take perfume abroad

If it is Amazon and you are not happy just return.

IvorCutler · 03/01/2022 17:03

Are you certain it was discontinued? Could they not have rereleased it? It’s available on lots of sites (reputable ones) as far as I can see.

JimCarreysMask · 04/01/2022 22:16

You can get it online from Lloyds pharmacy. So it might not be a fake

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2022 22:23

It’s probably just gone off due to its age, production was discontinued a long time ago I think, maybe a decade?

MissBattleaxe · 04/01/2022 22:24

Perfume formulations do change and fragrances are often available long after they've been discontinued. It could well be genuine. Lots of perfumes I used to love smell a little different now.

Januarybuzz · 05/01/2022 01:24

Yes it may be that it has gone off.
(It was bought on behalf of some relatives as a present for me so I can't do anything refund wise.)

Yep, probably a reformulation. Happens all the time, unfortunately.
