Anyone a 12-14 and tall? Stuck

I just look awful in everything. I don’t have a tummy but quite a wide bottom and hips and very big boobs. No waist which is a problem as anything tucked in looks bad but too loose and my boobs make me look bigger than I am. Wrap styles look ok ish on me but it’s hard to find day to day wear. I end up in a hoodie and leggings. I’ve had three different outfits on today snd feel like just screwing them up and putting a hoodie on. Anyone else similar shape and any better with clothes. I’m 35

I'm also tall with big boobs but bigger at a 14-16. I can look OK so am pretty sure that you can too!

Have you looked online to see what body shape you are?

I'm a fairly classic hourglass and the thing that has been a revelation for me this year has been learning how to accentuate my smallest points - so I prefer a short sleeve that's cut more on an angle so it's in line with the v on a v neck t-shirt, midi length dresses/skirts as my calves are nice and slim and I wear a lot more belts to cinch in my waist.

I also got my colours done as part of something else and that's helped a lot, knowing what colours suit me and having the confidence to wear more than black/grey.

Have you got someone who would be very honest that you could go shopping with and just throw caution to the wind and try all sorts of different shapes?

Notwithittoday · 31/12/2021 13:23

I’m definitely not hour glass unfortunately more of a chunky ladder lol. I’m very straight. Waist is not much smaller than my hips. Nobody to go shopping with. My mum and sisters are all size 20 bigger so I think I get on their nerves

I'm similar ish.... But I'd kill for no tummy!

I wonder if you really have no waist, given your hips are wide? I'm an hourglass and my waist is really high up. Even when I used to be thin. Most clothes are cut for a straighter shape and it took me a long time to realise i did have a waist, it just was in the wrong place for a lot of trousers. High waisted styles are brilliant for me. Even with my lockdown stress belly I can tuck stuff into the right pair of trousers. The boobs make my waist look smaller in comparison anyway.

I know lots of people say they don't work for boobs, but I find a tight top under looser dungarees a good casual look.

PaleGreenGhost · 31/12/2021 13:27

Sorry cross posted op.

I'd accentuate the hell out of the flat tummy, if I had one!

Pearlpink · 31/12/2021 13:35

I'm the same, I'm 5ft10 and a 14 sometimes 16. When I look back at photos I feel I look massive and I don't know what suits my shape.

Notwithittoday · 31/12/2021 13:38

Maybe my hips aren’t wide. My bum is quite wide and flat is prob what I mean. I could probably lose a few pounds and exercise but it doesn’t happen and when I have been thinner I still didn’t know what to wear and my face looked gaunt. I did go to a stylist once and she said my waist was high and I do try to find things to accentuate that but I find day to day casual harder

@PaleGreenGhost I would show off the tummy if my bottom wasn’t so unattractive. Front tuck sometimes work but with a toddle I end up with everything hanging out again Confused

What do you look like in tunic + long slim trousers + boots?

AwkwardPaws27 · 31/12/2021 13:59

You look brilliant. Honestly!
It looks like you have quite a high natural waist (I do too - 5'7", size 14 & 32GG, so similar shape but I expect not quite as tall). I wear high-waisted jeans and belts over dresses.
Is it the side profile you are worried about? Mine definitely looks worse than front-on.

Idontlikeworms · 31/12/2021 13:59

You look bloody amazing!!

Passthecake30 · 31/12/2021 14:01

I’m 6ft and a size 12. I find myself living in jeans and hoodies atm. Luckily I wfh and barely go out!

I'm exactly the same heigh and size but I don't really have big boobs, I have love handles, thin legs, not much arse to speak of and broad shoulders, and a bit of an apron tummy after having 3 massive children. Even pre children I had a slight protruding lower belly and I was skinny then! I have to stick to leggings, skinny jeans and loser tops. I used to look good in tight tops and lowcut boyfriend jeans, but haven't tried that style in a long time! Can't wear body con dresses, or even fitted dresses because I just have such an awkward shape.
plantastic · 31/12/2021 14:06

You are similar to me! I look good in Cos/Arket scandi type stuff. It is cut for the tall and not tight. Otherwise am wearing a lot of high waisted mum jeans and slightly cropped boxy tops. Anything with a 'cut' is hard if you are tall because it usually goes in and out in the wrong places.

CMOTDibbler · 31/12/2021 14:10

I'm 5'9, 10-12, 32F. No waist, but what I have is very high, and I do have a very curvy bum. The tops that suit me best are the sort with a band at the bottom so they don't need tucking in but have shape and can be adjusted to sit nicely though I'll wear a long vest under them. Slim leg jeans are good on me esp with a high waist. Shirred waist dresses and jumpsuits (but only wide legged ones) look good as I can create a waist illusion at the right point
I can't wear anything belted, things with a seam under the bust, or the floaty oversized things that were very in this year.

I have a few shirred waist dresses. They’re good. Going out isn’t as much of a problem but tops in the daytime are. Do you have any links?

You look stunning, I would love your figure! You do have a waist, really good legs and really good boobs.
I would wear stuff that goes in at your natural waist which is quite high up. No belts, but nicely fitted and following the lines on your body (not tight). I’m sure you can buy lots of great trousers and skirts on the high street, for tops and dresses go for shirred stuff or find a good seamstress that can alter things for you.

PaleGreenGhost · 31/12/2021 15:27

You look bloody gorgeous in what you are wearing right there OP!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being straight waisted, only I really don't think you are. If you draw straight lines down from the narrowest point of your waist (which might be nearly as high as you bra strap) to the widest point of your hips (which normally takes in a bit of thigh & arse) you can see there's a difference.

I'd advise high waisted trousers from shops that cater to curvier shapes ie not h&m! Warehouse and River island can be good.

Notwithittoday · 31/12/2021 16:00

Thanks all. I’m going to have a good look through these posts for ideas. Need to have a wardrobe overhaul. Just got myself into a bit of a rut with things. I do work from home too so that doesn’t help with the general laziness on the clothes front

GoodMorningMillicent · 31/12/2021 16:10

You’re gorgeous! Bloody hell, OP. I’d say what you really need is some confidence in yourself.

You’re a tall hourglass, I’d say, btw. You definitely do have a waist.

Iamthewombat · 31/12/2021 16:11

You’ve got a similar body to Penny Lancaster, Rod Stewart’s wife. Whilst I can’t sign off on some of her ensembles, she does dress to suit her shape. She might be good for outfit inspiration?

Thank you. Yes side profile scares me. The boobs look like canon balls from the side which sort of emphasises the pancake butt. Not brave enough to post that pic lol

@Iamthewombat yes I follow her on Instagram. I’d love to go shopping with her. I can’t figure her out though; her Instagram she looks really perfect and skinny but more well built on loose women. Idk whether she’s messing with her pics or she’s a yo-yo er. I like the way she wears heels and doesn’t mind being head and shoulders everyone.
