Deep conditioner for fine hair?

Stringervest · 28/12/2021 07:36

I have fine hair which has to be washed every two days or it is lifeless, greasy and flat. However, this means that it is also dry everywhere apart from the roots. I use Dove intensive repair conditioner on the ends but it's not cutting it. I need a deep conditioner or hair mask for occasional use which suits my hair type. Can anyone recommend anything?

Switch to a silicone free shampoo and conditioner. Silicone coats your hair and makes fine hair flat and greasy

The garnier naturals water melon or banana ones are good. Also good intense hair masks

I’ve got very fine hair which needs washing everyday. It was really dry and looking awful. I’ve had the ends cut and switched to this shampoo and conditioner. My hair looks so much better and feels better too.

I, also, use the Garnier banana hair food periodically.

It smells like watermelon Confused
Other flavours are available. The point is silicone free is better

I use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer once a week. It’s been a game changer for me.

Olaplex number 3

I guess I had a dodgy bottle then. It just smelled so odd. To be fair, it did make my hair feel lovely, maybe I should try a new bottle.

I think this is part of the problem. I use the L'Oreal Elvive one in the shiny blue bottle and I like it because it makes my hair feel thicker, but the trade off is that it costs my hair in crap.

I used to use Alberto Basalm which was dirt cheap and silicone free, I think? But my hair was just so flat and so soft, but not in a good way.

I have really fine hair and use Aussie Mega Shampoo with Australian Blue Mountain Eucalyptus (no silicones). Aussie 3 minute miracle does intensive conditioning really well.

babyboyHarrison · 28/12/2021 08:57

I like bleach London reincarnation mask. I use it every wash rather than an occasional treatment.

Stringervest · 28/12/2021 08:58

I have never heard of half of these, thank you.

For the last year I’ve used solid shampoo and conditioner and the difference has been amazing. I use a bit of John frieda’s thickening mousse as well, and for the first time in my life I don’t hate my fine hair.

Lush do good solid shampoos and conditioners, and the bigger Boots stores have some too.

Journeynotdestination · 28/12/2021 10:01

@Gosports can you link the ones you use? Thanks

brightgreenapple · 28/12/2021 10:10

Try the kerastase nutritive range (cream bottle, orange lid) specifically for fine hair

Stringervest · 28/12/2021 10:11

@Gosports yes please do link. I ordered a solid shampoo from the one that advertises (to me) on Instagram constantly and it was awful, I chucked it away. But I'm prepared to try again!

If you are after solid shampoo bars & conditioners try Kin Kind. New (UK) company but I like their shampoo bars. Lush ones did not work for me at all.

EdinaMonsoon · 28/12/2021 10:29

My hair sounds exactly like yours OP: fine/thin, dry & yet prone to being greasy. My hairdresser told me that the key to healthy hair growth is to treat the scalp so a month ago I started using Nioxin shampoo & conditioner together with a post-wash scalp treatment (also Nioxin). I also use 3 More Inches hair mask by Michael van Clarke. I now only wash my hair twice a week, the greasiness has gone & my hair looks & feels thicker & healthier. When I have tried other thickening or moisturiser shampoos they have left my hair feeling coated (all top range eg Aveda, Kerastase etc) but this combination is perfect.

Any of the lush ones are good, especially the blue solid shampoo (seanick) and the blue solid conditioner.

The ones from boots are Ethique - I got the trial pack for oily skin/hair but I’d buy the fully size ones too.

Gosports · 28/12/2021 10:50

I think with solid ones you have to give it a while because they might feel different at first, but it’s worth it!

Do they wash out hair products ok? I like the sound of these but my hair is easily weighed down.

Gosports · 28/12/2021 10:55

They do for me, yes. Much less coating than with silicones, I find.

I have fine hair which I wash every day, and it's in really good condition. I don't think it's frequent washing that dries your hair out, but heat styling it after washing (I air dry mine). Could you find a hair style that you don't have to heat style? My hair feels thicker and doesn't go flat with air drying.

MilduraS · 28/12/2021 12:27

I use the garnier banana hair mask on my fine hair. I have elasticizer and olaplex which are both great but I use the garnier in place of regular conditioner.
