THE boots

I think I know the answer to this but...what type of boot is the go to, do it all, suits everything boot?
I wear skinnies (sorry Grin) at the weekend and dresses for work, quite casual, I like to wear them with chunky-ish ankle boots.
I thought black Chelsea boots would be my saviour but can't find ones I love. And black can be quite harsh, but brown looks like I'm missing a horse...
If you could only buy one pair of boots what would they be?

Oxblood Doc Martens. I have one ancient battered pair and also a nice smart pair, and there is nothing they don't go with :).

Moonshine5 · 28/12/2021 00:56

If your referring to trends then it's a chunky boot your looking at but that would be a more relaxed fit denim; however with skinnies (jeans) I guess a walking boot would give a more flattering silhouette. It depends on how "curated" a look you are going for. What works for your lifestyle? Work / Bring on trend, etc

I've got three main shoes for winter. Lace up DM boots, solovair shoes and high chelsea's, they're more calf boot height.

LawnFever · 28/12/2021 09:00

I just bought a pair of doc martens, I’m reliving my youth and absolutely love them with skinnies, leggings or dresses.

I got the softer leather ones, no breaking in, they’re my best boots Grin

Exactly what I was going to recommend!

Another doc martens fan here. Their brown Chelsea boots or brown lace ups don't have that horsey look to them. The black lace ups seem to go with everything, from skinnies to shorts to pretty dresses with tights. I like the ladies Virginia ones, they seem slightly less chunky. As others have said, oxblood is beautiful too.

I have fur lined ones for winter too, they're very warm!

If you like the sound of DMs, take a look at | NPS Solovair – NPS Solovair UK" [[https://uk.nps-solovair.com/collections/womens?page=6 So airs]]. Made in the UK by the factory that used to make DMs. A bit more expensive but beautifully made. I have the high shine boots - very comfortable and didn't need wearing in at all. Got my eye on the oxblood brogue boots next!

Gah! Link fail.

Solovair

If you go for a suede or matte leather that will look less harsh than stark shiny black.

dudsville · 28/12/2021 10:35

I agree oxblood goes with anything.

ToooOldForThis · 28/12/2021 11:18

Thank you all so much!
I do love a DM, haven't had them for years but they do sound ideal.
@Moonshine5 I am not overly groomed, tend more towards casual/sporty. I work in a school so don't have to be too formal for work, but do have to be smart, and it's really my only chance to dress up these days!
Love both the Ash boots and Solovair altho £££!
Oxblood is a great shout...with black I'm always worried about veering into mum boot territory

My DM Sinclair boots in the soft grained leather. I wouldn’t have picked them up but one of the ladies in the shop was wearing them. They are very clumpy but the soft fairly matte leather balances them out. I love them and have worn them with everything from joggers to dresses.

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/12/2021 11:41

Black chunky lace up boots. I don't love DM's and find them a bit ubiquitous and uncomfortable. I prefer a slightly less heavy shape but still chunky enough it's on trend. My current ones are &otherstories I think.

I have oxblood boots and never wear them for the opposite reason, I don't think they actually properly go with anything, always look slightly off with an outfit. Black is far easier to style, and i do regret getting the oxblood. Nice to look at but i get almost no use from them.

ToooOldForThis · 28/12/2021 12:01

@dontgobaconmyheart that's interesting!
Do you wear black with all colours of tights/leggings etc?

Dr Marten Emmeline boots are great, they're not too chunky for me.

NewPage · 28/12/2021 12:12

I have a pair of Ash biker boots, memery vintage style working boot and knee high from pretty ballerinas. They are all great and the Ash/pretty ballerina ones I got on eBay, new, for a fraction of the price. Ebay is worth a look if you know your size in a particular brand

bluesky45 · 28/12/2021 12:36

These are my everyday boots, go with my skinnies and jumpers. And the quality is great, I really rate the brand, although they are a bit of an investment www.celticandco.com/womens/footwear/leather-boots/the-essential-leather-ankle-boots?colourid=97&glCountry=GB&gclid=CjwKCAiAiKuOBhBQEiwAId_sKxh4Qjtdaxk1NHP-lLFJCX-VLoNBYq8MOk02ClvaoPaT65QnrAU4pRoCreMQAvD_BwE

hettie · 28/12/2021 14:20

Lace up brougue boots in a light caramel colour... Would go b with most things

KirstenBlest · 28/12/2021 14:52

I have these solovairs in plain black

The astronauts and monkey boots in burgundy rub-off might suit the OP.
