Too big for jeans. Alternative?

I'm size 18 with big tummy. I gave up wearing jeans when I started gaining weight a few years back. I wear a lot of dresses which are very comfortable but I miss jeans.

I wear size 20 jeans from next

Tequilamockinbird · 27/12/2021 22:01

I'm size 20 and wear jeggings from next.

SilverHairedCat · 27/12/2021 22:02

I'm a size 24. I live in jeans.

You need to find the right cut for you. I live in bootcut, long line, high rise waist jeans. Mostly from M&S Magisculpt range.

Datsandcogs · 27/12/2021 22:09

You are not too big for jeans, you just haven’t found the right pair for you. Try Next or Landsend, Juno are good too.

DelphiniumBlue · 27/12/2021 22:13

M&S Siena jeans, but with longish looseish top/jumper.

This. You just need to try on lots of different styles until you find one that looks good on you.

No one is too big for jeans!
Can you dedicate a day to shopping for them only? Go in marks and Spencer's or department store and try loads on!
I love the m and s jeggings

Thanks for suggestions. I feel quite bulky in denim and trying jeans on in fitting rooms is not much fun. I look huge. (But maybe I need to give it another go)

I'm a 16- 18 dependent on sizing, I'm in dresses / pinafores and tights and boots. Jeans just don't work, I've got a small (in comparison) waist to my arse so following!

hivemindneeded · 27/12/2021 23:07

When I put on a lot of weight I wore smart work-style trousers that had an elasticated back but a proper front. It meant they fitted around the waist but didn't dig in when I leaned forward at a desk. Go for navy or black, as they go with most things - tunic tops, sweaters or tees.

But I also agree with PP that M&S Sienna jeans are very comfortable if you have heavy thighs and waist.

Xiaoxiong · 27/12/2021 23:19

Everyone looks huge in fitting rooms, I think it's a conspiracy of some kind.

Buy a couple of pairs, try on at home, return what you don't like. I find it less of a faff than the fitting room palaver, especially this time of the year.

Seconding the M&S sienna jeans! Very comfy.

I agree.

Changing rooms are so bad

Christmasisallaround · 28/12/2021 10:42

The M&S changing rooms at my local store have mirrors positioned to give a 360 degree view. Should be helpful but not always a welcomed view!

I will check out the Sienna jeans. I think it I was choosing jeans it would be a loose style which definitely doesn't work with my shape.

Leggings, one size up if necessary.

Jeggings*

peachgreen · 28/12/2021 11:10

Non-stretch denim doesn't work when you're bigger, imo. I go for slim fit jeans with as much stretch as I can find, and they're much more flattering.

Stoic123 · 28/12/2021 16:01

Hi Op.

I don't look great in jeans (short waisted/large hips) so dresses are much better on me.

But- I do like H&M ribbed trouses (comfortable, flattering and wash well). There are a few in the online sale now if you fancy trying a pair out.

Christmasisallaround · 28/12/2021 16:22

I look top heavy in slim stretchy jeans as I have broad shoulders. I agree non stretchy doesn't work though.

I'll have a look thanks@Stoic123. What do you wear with them?

I've wondering whether I could make joggers look ok. Something like this.

@Christmasisallaround- a mixture: jersey top, long sleeve tee shirts, longline vest with cardigan.I avoid short length or cropped tops- but that's partly short-waisted issue. I can wear a reasonably fitted top with as not as bulky as jeans.

greyinganddecaying · 28/12/2021 17:42

Simply be do bootcut jeggings that are flattering. I live in them

BeautifulBirds · 28/12/2021 17:50

I feel your pain. I have given up looking for jeans that fit. So, watching the thread if anyone suggests anything I haven't tried.

SilverHairedCat · 28/12/2021 18:52

Apart from my M&S jeans, I also have www.thread.com/gb/item/capsule-247-indigo-bootcut-jeans-made-with-organic-cotton-indigo/17483742 - these fit brilliantly in a 24L.

Puffalicious · 28/12/2021 18:58

OP those joggers look beautiful and will flow really well. If you're still up for trying jeans I agree that skinny jeggings and large up top/ shoulders can look really unbalanced. Boden have some really wide leg jeans just now that look like the first joggers you've shown. JD Williams also do a wide range of jeans for all shapes.
