Silver Hardware on Bags

babysnowman · 27/12/2021 18:06

Most of my jewellery is silver or white gold incl wedding rings. I really like yellow gold too and it's definitely popular at the moment.

So many coats, hats, bags come with gold hardware and the clash of that with silver jewellery irrationally bothers me! Im saving up for a black Mulberry Lily at the moment and much prefer the one with the gold hardware over the one with the silver hardware. I think it would clash of the gold hardware with my silver/ white gold jewellery would annoy me though!

Does this stuff bother anyone else?!

Yes, it's important to me too. I'm happy to go with gunmetal hardware but otherwise only silver.
But then I never mix silver/white gold jewellery with gold either.

sammylady37 · 27/12/2021 19:43

Me! I really dislike gold coloured hardware on bags. It looks cheap IMO.

DramaAlpaca · 27/12/2021 19:45

That would bother me too. I'd never choose gold hardware.

ExquisitelyDecorated · 27/12/2021 19:45

Yes, I never buy bags with gold coloured hardware.

youngestisapsycho · 27/12/2021 19:49

I only like silver too…. Hard to find tho

madamceladon · 27/12/2021 19:54

I prefer gold to silver hardware! But agree I'd want the metals to match not clash

Branster · 27/12/2021 20:03

You are not alone OP.
The jewellery I wear most of the time is silver (coloured). It absolutely must match with belt buckle, handbags details etc . So all silver coloured.
If, very very rarely I wear gold jewellery, I remove wedding ring, engagement ring etc.
Gold coloured zips, buckles - I find them really annoying and cheap looking so I would avoid even if I favoured gold jewellery.

Branster · 27/12/2021 20:04

Don't even like gold coloured details on underwear!

Even worse is rose gold!!!!!

jackstini · 27/12/2021 20:04

Me too
I have not bought bags purely on this issue

Aderyn21 · 27/12/2021 20:04

Yes, I have bought bags I love but never use because they have gold hardware and most of my jewellery is silver coloured. It's annoying

user15364596354862 · 27/12/2021 20:08

Nope. It would never occur to me to try and match the zip on my coat or bag to my jewellery. I have more important things to worry about.

Dullrugby · 27/12/2021 20:36

God, it's another world.

sansucre · 27/12/2021 21:05

I quite like black bags with gold hardware, but if the bag is a colour, say blue or red, I prefer silver. I loathe matchy-matchy, and really like the mix of silver and gold, so am not really a stickler for wanting my jewellery to match the hardware on my bag(s). As an aside, I wear diamond studs set in platinum but my rings are gold.

With regards to Mulberry Lily bags, they usually do black every season and the hardware changes, so if it's currently silver, next time it should be gold etc. Sometimes they even have both but this tends to be in a few select stores rather than online. Best thing is to speak to one of the stores or customer services and ask to be contacted when a black Lily with gold hardware is released.

opinionminion · 27/12/2021 21:10

I only wear silver or platinum ... I would never ever wear anything that had gold on it - be it a buckle, zip, button - just nothing.

I never buy silver as I think it looks cheap! Gold is classy Xmas Smile
SilverGlassHare · 27/12/2021 21:18

Can’t stand gold hardware on bags. I think it looks cheap and nasty. Hate ‘bling’. I think it’s partly because I don’t like ‘fake’ things - silvery hardware is usually just steel but goldtone looks like it’s pretending to be something it isn’t.

Ireolu · 29/12/2021 07:01

I wear jewellery that clashes (earrings are typically yellow gold wedding bands r platinum) with each other and with handbag hardware. Life is too short to stress about these things. Silver on black comes off cold and gold is warmer. Sometimes a lighter gold hardware solves the brassier gold issue. Black hw sometimes helps the dilemma and is more edgy. Enjoy shopping.

bambooelectrictoothbrushhead · 29/12/2021 21:58

Same. I like a Whistles bag but it has gold hardware so can't buy it!

ToManderleyAgain · 01/01/2022 08:41

There’s a couple of DeMellier bags I would be tempted by if it weren’t for the gold hardware. Really wish that manufacturers would either offer an option for both silver and gold, or hedge their bets with that very pale gold colour which looks fine with both metals.

RayofSun · 01/01/2022 22:47

I completely agree and for this reason have found myself gravitating towards Coach bags over the years as they are the only brand in that higher range price bracket that seem to have silver/ gunmetal hardware!
