Urgent help needed- Winter Wedding

I really need some help. I am attending a wedding in two weeks and have nothing to wear. I am in my 40's, only 5'3 and a size 8. Budget ideally under £200 for shoes/boots and a dress. Everything I like is black and I look awful in black. I am pale and currently growing my hair after chemo so do not have a lot of confidence!

John Lewis have their sale on - easy to search. Nancy Mac might be a little over budget, but they have some beautiful dresses, including coloured velvets.

Hope you find something you love.

Coast is often suggested on here for wedding dresses
Can you give sone idea of your best features, parts you want to hide, preferred length and colours ??

AdaColeman · 27/12/2021 08:29

Another vote for John Lewis. They have 50% off dresses at the moment, plus they have a range of search options, to help narrow down your search including colour, so you are sure to find something. They have some nice brands too.

I love the Nancy Mac dresses! However, (apart from cost) the timings will be very tight! I really love the Nancy Mac velvet jumpsuit.

I love the idea of velvet jumpsuit for a winter wedding. I am very little so patterns do tend to swamp me. I like empire lines. I do not want to look too old!

Thank you for trying to help.

What about something like this? The colour is beautiful 😊

We attended a wedding the last week of November and one of the guests wore this. She looked stunning!

Had I not asked where it was from I would have assumed Reiss or Wolf and Badger etc. She wore it with expensive shoes and clutch bag and a fur coat.

I really think the Nancy Mac one is gorgeous. An investment piece that would not date.
This is also available in an 8. www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/velvet-puffed-sleeve-jumpsuit

Oh goodness... I cannot thank you all enough. I adore the Nancy Mac jumpsuits but I am just not sure how much wear I would get out of it! I am going to see what other velvet jumpsuits I can find although I have a feeling nothing else will compare. I would not have thought to look at PLT ...I will widen my search. I really like the PLT one but I would need to buy a strapless bra which could be tricky due to surgery leaving me rather wonky! I like the Monsoon one too...Cannot work out if that style may look better on my small frame than a jumpsuit with wide legs? Any thoughts?

Our nearest JL is an hour away. However, I would have to take the children with me so it is easier to shop online.

@Whatcaniwear That was my thinking with the Monsoon one 😊 I think it would definitely suit someone quite petite!

More info please!

Body shape, patterns or plains, usual colouring are you eg a summer pale or a winter pale

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/12/2021 13:55

Hi M&S do a mastectomy strapless bra which is good.

Whatcaniwear · 27/12/2021 14:06

honeylemonteaforme I have no idea about colouring! I am just pale skinned with brown hair. I prefer plain colours as patterns can be overpowering on my frame. I am little but with curves.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco thank you. Bra ordered!

Lovely jumpsuit, however I have it and going to the toilet is a bloody nightmare.
sergeantmajor · 27/12/2021 21:04

Have a look at Silk Fred. I have made a couple of successful dress purchases from there recently.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/12/2021 22:07

Glad you've ordered the bra. With your hair, have you tried a really nice headband, try Anthropologie or Oliver Bonas (ps I'm 3 years down the line and it's gets easier) x

Jumpingintochristmas · 27/12/2021 23:39

Honestly if you have ordered the bra try ordering the PLT jumpsuit, I was astounded how good it looked on.

Regardless of choice I hope this thread has helped you to look outside your comfort zone, I know that can’t be easy right now x

Whatcaniwear · 28/12/2021 07:17

Thank you all. I have ordered a few jumpsuits to try...hoping they arrive very soon as I will then have to find a bag and shoes/boots :).

I will also look into headbands as I am currently trying to pull off pretty little slides that were my daughters! Great idea, thank you.
