Olaplex-clueless

I saw someone with gorgeous shiny hair on sm and they said they use Olaplex.

I’ve had a quick Google but, from what I understand, it’s a multiple bottle system and there may be mixing involved?

I can’t get my head around it, and have neither the patience or inclination for all that faff, is there a one bottle equivalent conditioning treatment that will leave me with silky shiny hair? Preferably one that doesn’t cost a fortune!
TIA.

There are various different treatments by olaplex but they do a regular shampoo and conditioner too - you want numbers 4&5 for that. If you just want a weekly conditioning treatment it’s number 8.

I had it yesterday when I had highlights. My hairdresser said you need stage one and two, which is only available professionally, and then you can buy the other stages and do them yourself if you want to.

It basically mends the hair and the cuticles after they have been damaged by things like colouring, that’s why hair seems so silky.

She said it is not much use doing the treatments without having a professional treatment; my professional one cost an extra £20 and she said I wouldn’t need to do the at home stuff if I didn’t really want to because it isn’t like a conditioner and will rinse out.

I don’t have coloured hair Jemima I wonder if it will do anything for me then?

Thanks for the info StFrancis I will have a look at the number 8 and see if it’s worth trying.

If you only use one I’d go for the number 3 rather than number 8. That’s the one that restores your hair to amazing condition.

I don’t bother with the shampoo or conditioner etc. I get the professional treatment every now and then when at the hairdresser and use no 3 at home before washing as regular maintenance and my hair is the best it’s been in years!

Clarabellawilliamson · 22/12/2021 14:50

You don't need to use them all together. If you want one to improve the condition of your hair then go for number 3. I use a small amount of 6 after washing and before styling.

If you want a cheap and cheerful treatment to make your hair shiny, try L'Oréal 8 second wonder water. It makes a noticeable difference immediately!

IDontLikeMyself · 22/12/2021 15:25

Ahhhhh too many choices. You can see why I had no clue where to start. Grin
number 3 , right I will look at that - I will see what number 6 is and will look at 8 second wonder.

Thanks.

Olaplex 3 is where you want to start.

If you want something stronger than that get Olaplex 0. You put that on your hair and follow up with Olaplex 3 ten minutes later.

ambereeree · 22/12/2021 16:03

What number is used for coloured hair?

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 16:04

Number 3 is like a treatment you use on damp/wet hair BEFORE you shampoo

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 16:05

6 is like a leave in treatment you only need a little bit.

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 16:06

There is a little trial kit some places sell for about £20-£25 quid might be worth trying that to see if you like it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/12/2021 18:32

I bought 3+6
6 is good (leave in conditioner )
3 is a pre-treat , I am using it up because it was so ££ but I won't buy it again. I used some on Sunday , my hair is dry today ,feels ok to touch but tough getting a comb through it Hmm
I much prefer Phillip Kingsley or the Superdrug Argan oil pre-treat

My hair is un coloured (grey)

IDontLikeMyself · 22/12/2021 18:33

It’s all getting very complicated! Confused

I will see if I can find a little trial kit!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hairdressers put it into colour when doing highlights. The treatment that you use from home isn't that great & I don't think it's worth the money. Elasticizer by Philip Kingsley is really good or Aveda damage remedy.

MabelMoo23 · 22/12/2021 23:53

You can buy a trial kit of 0 and 3 for £15 from Space NK

MoltonSilver · 23/12/2021 00:40

Olaplex 3 did absolutely nothing for my highlighted but not overly damaged hair. It was a waste of money.

If you don't colour your hair I don't think you need it. L'Oreal Wonder Water is very good for a fraction of the price

Rina66 · 23/12/2021 05:33

I have coloured and hi-lighted hair. I wasn't impressed with 3, but I do love No. 8 Moisture Mask- leave on for 10 minutes after shampooing. I also think No.7 Bonding Oil makes a difference and it can be mixed with No 6 before blow drying to smooth and stop hair being so puffy.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 23/12/2021 05:49

And just read the Amazon reviews first if that was going to be your place to look - I was about to buy mine from there but many of the reviews seemed to suggest that it might be fake from there. I don't know if this is true but make your own mind up!
