For people who do this, how do you manage to see the back of your hair ?

I just lift it up and go for it. You get a feel for it. But now DD is old enough she does it for me.

I've always done my own colouring. I use two mirrors for the back - my bathroom mirror and a hand mirror . I divide the hair into about 6 sections with a rat tail comb, and clip them up. Then check with the hand mirror that I've done a fair job. Then I just put some colour on my fingers and rub it into the partings. Keeping in mind that the back is one area which doesn't show up if you've done a bad job, since the top hair covers any patchy bits. About once a year I get DH to do it, he usually finds a few patchy areas but nothing major. Good luck !

  • the six sections are at the back. For the front I section every half inch , from one ear to the other.

My Hair's down to my waist so i have managed to involve my very kind husband to do it. I do the separation, combing, mixing, rinsing etc, all he does is apply to my roots. He's quite good. I'm very lucky. ♥

Thanks ladies. That's really helpful.

How do you pick the right color? For instance if I have dark brown hair but would like to have honey and caramel tones?

I would do bleach highlights and then the honey or caramel colour on top. It won't change the darker colour but will stick to the bleached strands.
