Redesigning Engagement Ring

4 replies

We got engaged when my husband was at university. My engagement ring is the only material thing I really treasure but the band has now worn very thin and the three stones (in a line) are very small. I want to keep the gold in the band and incorporate it into a wider band and add to the stones to make a new ring (they can be bigger stones). Can anyone advise as to a new design?

Think carefully about whether to keep the gold and incorporate. We tried that with my engagement ring redesign and it didn’t go well. The original ring metal was too low quality.

We kept the original stones had them reset in a different setting in palladium instead of gold.

@TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet
Thank you for that! Hadn't even considered the ring metal quality!

Even if you don’t use the metal in the new ring you could use it as allowance toward the cost of the new one?
Try going into an independent jeweller, they will be able to show you lots of catalogues with different styles of rings to give you ideas and will be able to advise what style will work best with your existing stones

I did this and personally I would just have the diamonds reset in a new metal as pp have suggested, you could even add stones and use the originals as part of the design.
