Toner for blonde hair - help please!

I was due to get my hair coloured this week but the appointment was cancelled by the salon as my hairdresser has Covid. Thankfully hairdresser is feeling ok so far and we'll see each other in the new year.

I was thinking of buying a toner to pull down the brassiness of my roots to tide me over the holidays, any recommendations? Not a box dye, just like a strong, effective purple shampoo that takes me from brass to ash.

Fanola 'no yellow' shampoo is amazing! I would highly recommend. Leave it on for 3-5 mins in the shower before rinsing. But wear gloves as it stains your hands purple!

There’s a few but you sound like you need a dark blonde root smudge to blend in your roots? I’d go for Bleach London Smoky Shampoo

I use this for a darker blonde hue where my brown roots are and then it turns the highlights bright platinum blonde. And blends beautifully!

or Elvive Purple Shampoo for overall brightening (it’s the least drying purple shampoo I’ve used and it’s usually on offer!!)

Thank you both! They both sound exactly like what I need, something that blends with my roots would be perfect to manage the next few weeks 😁

@mogkat - would you recommend this as a weekly shampoo too?

Bleach London do some decent toners. I have ash blonde hair and the Lavender Grey toner works nicely if my roots get bad in between salon visits. It helps the brown blend in with the blonde and gets rid of yellow.

The Fanola intense conditioner is really effective and not as drying as purple shampoos are.

My amazon basket is filling up nicely!

Another Bleach, London recommendation.

Archip17 · 16/12/2021 22:02

The Fanola is brilliant. Just make sure you wear gloves!

SockFluffInTheBath · 16/12/2021 22:05

I use the Bleach London silver shampoo, it’s the most effective purple shampoo I’ve used, but I’m tempted by their other products recommended here.

OP bleach london is generally a lot cheaper in Boots than on Amazon

Stiffcondomhat · 16/12/2021 22:11

Another vote for bleach London

truflets · 16/12/2021 22:35

Thanks all!
Amazon is my go to now, tend to forget about Boots!

Bleach London toner followed by fanola is the best diy combo. Fanola is best purple shampoo by a country mile. Dont waste your time with others. Really drying though, so make sure you condition well, otherwise you'll have hair like straw!

Reporting back!

I used Fanola this morning and am amazed, the brassiness is completely toned down and it seems to have blended well with my darker roots so really does look like its been done! I went belt and braces and used the no yellow conditioner and finished with the restructurer so its soft and not dry at all.

If my diy curls turn out ok I'll post a photo. (That's a long shot though)

Thanks again for the recommendations. You lot are fab xx

Thanks for reporting back! The fanola is fab, I use it weekly myself and find that helps keep my blonde nice and bright looking Smile
