Kicking the booze and improving looks

I have been trying to kick the booze for a long while now and every time I got a a few weeks / months - I always look so much better! I’ve done it hopefully for good now and even just over a month in I can see a big difference in my appearance. Obviously there are lots of other benefits as well but honestly I was looking so tired and bloated and red when I was on the wine!!
I can also keep to my skincare routine without a wine haze in the evenings haha!
I’m wondering if anyone else has had amazing effects from ditching the wine?

Not tried it yet, OP, but massive congratulations to you for going there. I've read Catherine Gray's book and found that very motivating. Whilst I manage moderation and keep fit, I would definitely lose a few kilos without the booze.

Big time.... I'd show a before and after but it'd be, er, outing!!

My skin glows, like I've got a filter on - I'm loving it

Newyork honestly try it you’ll never look back! Indie search I know, I can’t believe the comparisons with the booze and without!
I find that I can keep to a fitness routine too which is obviously a good thing

I kicked it three months ago, just decided I'd look and feel better without it now I'm postmenopausal.

I've lost a good bit of weight, gone down two dress sizes and my skin is glowing, so I'm staying off it for the forseeable.

I’ve not lost any weight but my face is less lined, less red, less dry and I sleep better. I think you can just tell I don’t drink wine somehow.
For me it was a wine specific issue! I did only drink once a week but had the full bottle when I did. With being 45 and peri I just thought I can’t afford to feel )and look) this shit on top of everything else. I still have the odd gin and a a JD and Diet Coke and that doesn’t have the same effect as the wine on my skin.

Interested in this. Always do dry Jan and hoping to keep going afterwards but the ability to have a glass or two at a special event.

I'd don't drink as much as I used to but notice if I have a few weeks with no G&T or cocktails I look more glowy.

Got a close friend who went completely teetotal (she did have a slight problem though) and she looks amazing - she lost a bit of weight but her hair and skin are so much better. She posted a throwback photo as she has her own business the other day.

What book is this please
newyorkbreakfast · 18/12/2021 13:16

It's Catherine Gray, Unexpected Joy of Being Sober. She's since written a couple of others which I've not read.

newyorkbreakfast · 18/12/2021 13:19

@aslongas, you are right, but I love sitting down in the evening with the paper and some wine. I also think it's what my husband I enjoy together, so it's become routine (not every night). When he's away I have no trouble not having any...
Anyway this post is about quitting so let me not take up space talking about enjoying wine!

Gonnagetgoing · 18/12/2021 13:44

There was an old DM Femail (yes I know!) a few years back where someone who drank a lot socially did an experiment and gave it up or cut down a lot, the difference was amazing! I was much younger then and not ready to try it (plus skin looked better and hair etc) but it did make you think!

Chrispackhamspoodle · 18/12/2021 14:17

I have been off booze for a couple of months. It's my stomach that has improved. I've lost inches and 1/2 stone without changing anything else.I was so bloated.Skin is just starting to show the benefit but that might be the HRT and new products from the M&S beauty calendar too.I eat healthier as I'm not having a hungover carb fest every weekend.

I drink in moderation, like 2 units a week, so I am not going to give it up, wouldn't make any difference. But I do know twins and one doesn't drink at all and the other loves a drink. And now at 51, you can really tell which one never drinks. I salute her, she looks like her twin's niece now at this point.

I really love her books, the drinking one is the one I haven't read but I love her unexpected joy in the ordinary and her unexpected joy of being single.

Made a pact with DH that we won’t drink at home anymore unless we have people over. Hoping that will help as we’ve got into a bit of a pattern of opening a delicious bottle of wine a few nights a week.
