1940s party

Is this dress ok for a 1940s themed party? I really like it but is it fitting with the theme? It's not my first choice but most things are sold out. Also what accessories would go nicely with it? What colour shoes etc. I'm a size 10/12 if that helps.

Very 1940s in my view.
I think if you can do the typical 1940s hair and make up style it will look great.

Shoes could be red or black. Peeptoe heels if you have them.

Well I am a sucker for a hat especially 1940s style so I say yes.
Black pill box style hat and shoes would go fine with the red dress.

Black shoes are fine, you need a slip and proper stockings though, nothing stretchy if you want to be authentic, all nylon no lycra, so you need to get the size right. They should be skin coloured.

For the make up would a red lip be too much?

Not too me but I wear red lipstick anyway

1940s makeup was very simple. No flicky eyeliner, that is later. Focus on the lashes if you want eye makeup. Then powder and lipstick.

I was just watching a tutorial on YouTube for this exact hairstyle, it's a really beautiful look. The only thing is I'm not sure it would suit me but I might try it out just for fun

Gorgeous dress, you’ll look fantastic! Black shoes and a little hat would be perfect.

Perhaps wear Guerlain Mitsouko or Shalimar, or Coty L’aiment perfume for the finishing touch. All brought out in the 1920s, but still very much the thing in 1940s.

My partner is having some trouble finding something, everything is either sold out or completely out of our budget. Does anyone have any suggestions for a 1940s style suit?

Shouldn’t have him bother with a suit, pair of baggy chinos( charity shop and oversized), fine check shirt , pullover , knitted tie, tweed jacket brylcream and a good hat. No ones gonna look at him with you in that fabulous dress!

Or a uniform of some kind? Can you rent those?
