What shampoo is best for an itchy scalp?

I have been suffering from an itchy scalp for a few weeks. I can feel raised areas like spots. Is there any shampoos (and conditioners) that might help? I have fine hair which isn't coloured. The products I use at the moment are Nioxin ones which I buy at the hairdresser. Thanks.

T-gel
Doesn’t smell great though.

@ApolloandDaphne Nizoral, on first use wet hair / scalp, coat scalp and let it sit for 15-20 mins then wash your hair as normal. Do this twice a week for 2-3 weeks or until the itching stops and then use it 1-2 times a week before your normal hair wash leave on whilst you wash etc.

My doctor recommended this routine for me and iv not had any problems or dandruff since, that was 3 years ago.

Yes I use Nizoral and use the example above when first using, stop using when itching stopped and only use occasionally if I feel a little itchy, which is hardly ever now after suffering for years. Used TGel previously which relieved slightly but didn’t totally stop it.

I came into town to buy nizoral but they don't seem to stock it on Boots or super drug. I have no other options!

Definitely Redken Scalp Relief Soothing Balance - I’ve tried lots of the others and this is the only one that works. A drop or two of Melissa essential oil added to it helps as well

They definitely stock it in both those places. Ask at the pharmacy counter, or check in the medications section.

I didn't have time to look there. I can go again a bit later.

I'm prone to a gummy, itchy, spotty scalp and made worse by a pp's suggestion of using a co-wash. I tend to use vosene for most washes, these days.

As long as I can remember I have had an itchy scalp and flakes. Not tiny dandruff, flakes.

My experience is that anything about dandruff has more chemicals and makes everything worse!!!! My problem comes more from sensitive scalp.

I used to use a really good shampoo but is discontinued SadSad I have been trying to find one equivalent, mostly natural ingredients! No "anything" Wink currently it's the Free & Clear one

Good luck

I'm also on team Nizoral! I use it when I get a scalp eczema flare up, and yes you can continue to use conditioner just obviously not on your scalp. The rest of the year I use Ethique Healy Kiwi solid shampoo bar, which lasts about 3 months per bar and makes my hair so happy 😁

I've just started Noughty from Boots which has settled my itch after two washes

Needaholidayplease · 16/12/2021 16:36

Oilatum shampoo worked amazing for me, used to have the itchiest dry scalp. It's expensive but I can't use anything else

I had an itchy/dry patch for a few months used Neutrogena T Gel for a few weeks and it's disappeared.
