What shampoo is best for an itchy scalp?

I have been suffering from an itchy scalp for a few weeks. I can feel raised areas like spots. Is there any shampoos (and conditioners) that might help? I have fine hair which isn't coloured. The products I use at the moment are Nioxin ones which I buy at the hairdresser. Thanks.

Hello, ones I have tried in the past are
Polytar (smells awful but really good, I got it off Amazon)

and also Ginger shampoo from the Body shop

ApolloandDaphne · 13/12/2021 19:25

I don't fancy a really stinky shampoo! I can check out the ginger one.

Head and shoulders mint one

I have a really itchy scalp due to Psoriasis. Following a recommendation on here I now use Kerastase Bain Riche Dermo Calm and it's the best it's been for years. I got mine from Amazon.

ignatiusjreilly · 13/12/2021 19:35

I recommend the Head and Shoulders mint one too.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/12/2021 19:36

Ooh lots of suggestions.

Neutrogena T/Gel.

I've used Nizoral. My husband found Aldi anti dandruff has helped his scalp (seems milder than the head and shoulders)

Ilovetheseboots · 13/12/2021 19:59

I second Nizoral, I have tried numerous shampoos over the years and this was the only one to stop my itchy scalp. I haven’t needed to use it for a while now as it seems to clear it up totally.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/12/2021 20:08

I might try Nizoral first because it seems I can get it easily in Boots and it isn't too expensive if it doesn't work.

I think it’s worth a go for sure, I’ve also used the Head and Shoulders mentioned, whilst they did help a bit the Nizoral actually totally cleared it up, hope it works Smile

DeeCeeCherry · 13/12/2021 20:14

Nizoral

I also have very fine hair and an itchy scalp. Recently I tried Garnier Ultimate Blends Delicate Oat Softening Shampoo Bar for Sensitive Scalp and Fragile Hair 60 g just because it was on offer on Amazon. I love it. Feels gentle, no itch and my hair is soft and clean.

Whitewolf2 · 13/12/2021 20:41

A lot of shampoos irritate my scalp, I mostly use Garnier Ultimate Blends Delicate Oat Softening Shampoo too, as so far it hasn’t set off my scalp and it’s very reasonably priced!

JinglingHellsBells · 13/12/2021 21:08

Phillip Kingsley for itchy scalps. Not cheap but works.

Yes that worked for me too along with their honey one. Didn't clear my scalp as much as didnt irritate it.

sorry for the double posts. MN is very slow tonight and a double click = double posts.

X-pel therapeutic shampoo

Home bargains under £2

Works fast.

FreeButtonBee · 13/12/2021 21:18

Another vote for the Philip Kingsley one. Have been using for over 10 years and it can’t be beaten for me.

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/12/2021 21:34

I have curly hair and have found washing about once every 5-7 days and using a co wash has really calmed my itchy scalp down. Think it was probably getting dried out and the oils being striped by harsh products.

Crepuscularshadows · 13/12/2021 21:37

Neutrogena t gel for outbreaks. Follow the instructions carefully.

aveeno sensitive skin shampoo for everyday.

TeaNutNana · 13/12/2021 21:39

Body shop ginger shampoo or green people green tea and orange peel shampoo. I use Aussie miracles conditioner but my scalp only seems super sensitive to shampoo not conditioner.

1000umbrellas · 13/12/2021 21:55

Hedrin. You have nits.

KatyS36 · 13/12/2021 22:02

E45 shampoo works for me
