What’s the best nail polish? Any other tips for nice nails at home?

I have splurged a bit on too many Christmas presents for myself and have already some treatments booked that I can’t do at home. I figured I would economise on my hands and feet.

I have nail files and stuff for home pedicure.

What polish and top coat should I get?

I use OPI base and topcoat. My favourite polishes are from Essie and Ciate. Nails inc also do some nice ones I use on a regular basis.

Base coat: amzn.to/3DUbNHj 💅🏻

Top coat: amzn.to/3ybwCMS 💅🏻

All the Essie polishes: amzn.to/3lSOQ0S 💅🏻

The others are also available on Amazon. I do my nails every week now and do a really good job. Would never pay for a manicure or pedicure because I do them at home.

I use OPI base coat and Essie, OPI or Ciate nail polish. I always use Essie's Good To Go quick drying top coat.

Nailberry! Incredible coverage but also actually good for your nails - permeable / oxygenated etc.

I am a big fan of Nails Inc. Always get them when they are on offer. Today have sparkly Christmas red ready for works do tonight.

I do my own nails always, if you keep on top of them the nail polish strengthens them and they always look well maintained.

Nails Inc (my DD wears ot , I don't wear polish myself)
Theres an indentation on the bottom of the bottle , if you put your nail there you can see how the colour will look (cannot explain it , give it a go) Xmas Grin
The rectangular bottles , not the round ones .

I like the Barry M sparkly polishes. They go on really well.

Worst are max factor

My favourite base and top are by a brand named Cuccio. I've been buying them for years and highly recommend.

My favourite nail polish brands are A England (for a bit of subtle sparkle) and Essie or Orly for a good plain colour.

There's a great online shop called nail polish direct for all of these brands at good prices. They're also on Ebay.

I'd also recommend buying a good quality glass nail file , mine has lasted 3 years so far and its gentle on your nails.

I'm no expert , but I am an enthusiastic collectorSmile

Actually I like max factor nailfinity gel (2 step) got mine at Tesco and I am useless at nails...

I like Rimmel for being reasonably durable, cost effective and having a good range of colours. I use Sally Hansen diamond hard for top coat.

Barry M nail paint does the best glitter and chrome effect colours.

I like OPI but buy it infrequently due to cost.

Hoesbeforebroes · 10/12/2021 21:06

I am a recent convert to the coloured versions of OPI Nail Envy.

No base or top coat needed, you reapply every couple of days then remove and start again from scratch weekly. No issues with flaking or chipping, my nails stay good for the whole week. As an added bonus, it strengthens and improves your nails.

You are limited to a few neutral shades though.

friendlyflicka · 10/12/2021 21:06

I have tried all the posh brands and actually find Barry M with top coat and base coat is the very for non chip. And has an amazing colour range and is very cheap.

HermioneWeasley · 10/12/2021 21:28

Nail polish direct are very good for range and price

I like Lily and Fox nail wraps for low effort nails - they cost about £2 a sheet and because I have small nails I can make a sheet last at least 3 gos.

Make sure you use the Au site for free shipping

Barry M & Rimmel. Essie are good but I don’t think last as long.
