Am I the only idiot who buys things from Instagram

I’ve just got my money back having ordered two shirts from an Instagram advert - when they arrived they were not the linen shirts I expected. They were in fact two corduroy dresses - well sacks. Luckily I paid with pay pal and I’ve been refunded.
What makes me a complete muppet is that I’d already been stung by buying two other shirts ( are you sensing a theme here) from some advert (Luvvey clothing) where they arrived looking great but after two washes they kind of disintegrated and all the buttons came off. Like a dying flower.
Am I the only one? I’m not doing it again - it’s all smoke and mirrors.

But if anyone needs two cord dresses the size and shape of a small marquee then I’m your woman!!

No. I always checked Trust Pilot and reviews were so bad. I just scroll by now.

@Mercurial123 They had good reviews on Trust Pilot. I’m just going to avoid all adverts on there.

I didn't realize you could buy from Instagram. I definitely won't be doing it now though! Thanks for the heads up OP.

You're not buying from Instagram, You're buying from a company that advertises on Instagram and many big brands do.
Best to check comments and thoroughly look at the website etc.

Buying off so called influencers just makes them less likely to get a proper job and stop being pointless

You need to delve a bit deeper as the most recent ones can often be made up by the retailer to boost the score and hide the poor reviews. Same with Amazon.

Although I've just had a look on trust pilot and they are actually mostly positive. Also appear to be written by customers rather than the usual fake reviews where a company is clearly writing their own content.
So I take it back!

I totally do this but I’ve had some success. Also some failures but usually that’s when I get fooled by some internet company will provide same quality as more expensive brands at 1/3 the price because they cut out the middleman dontcha know.

OnlyHereForTheClothes · 11/12/2021 16:48

I only buy through Instagram if it's shops I already know IYSWIM. Very easy to get sucked in though!

Coffeeonmytoffee · 11/12/2021 19:38

Sorry I meant things advertised on Instagram not actual Instagram.
I’ve just had two bad experiences despite trust pilot.
The first one has been shut down it was clearly just a scam. The other one is still going - they just delete the negative comments I think and they have amazing reviews on trust pilot.
I’m only buying from companies I know.

I did twice during first lockdown as I was trying to deal with the intense stress by internet shopping. Not since then though after seeing what looked like a lovely top but after googling the company was clearly a scam.
