Winter coat (maybe wool) in black? Size 18

Hi,

I am looking for a smart-ish winter coat. It needs to be black as I will be wearing it for mum's funeral. But, hope to wear it afterwards.

I don't have a 'nice' winter coat. Just ones for walking the dog.

I have seen some in reiss and Hobbs but 18 are sold out. Any other recommendations?

Budget is about £400 but I would like it to last so something quite classic would be good.

Many thanks

Please does anyone have any recommendations. Thank you. Blush

You'd think it would be easy to find a smart black coat in December when you've got a healthy budget, but I've been looking for 3 years!
OP I've had a little look but all the options I thought of have sold out of your size (well, most sizes actually)
In the past I've looked at Jaeger, Ted baker, jigsaw, Boden, Monsoon.

Next Online has a pretty big selection of black coats - I know this as I've just ordered some to try for a funeral.

EllieSattler · 09/12/2021 18:38

Sorry posted too soon. Meant to say - your budget is bigger than mine and there are a lot in an 18 so it's a good place to try. I'm sorry about your mum.

@pickingdaisies I thought it would be super easy too 😪 I did look at Ted Baker. Found one I like...sold out in my size 🤦‍♀️ Will look at your other suggestions though. Thank you.

@EllieSattler thank you. Dont know why I didn't think of next. I would prefer to spend under that. But I really want to look smart for mum. She was always banging on at my to get a formal winter coat. Now she has gone....I actually need one 🙈

Thanks @Donotgogentle and @covetingthepreciousthings. To my shame I have never heard of either of those places.

I rely appreciate all your help. Smile

I have a number of coats/jackets from OtherStories, they’re good value for the quality ime.

Several years ago I bought a beautiful Windsmoor black wool fit and flare coat (with a grey furry collar). I think it might have been from John Lewis.
Anyway, it's a classic and is still going very strong and is warm and lovely. I recommend the brand.

pickingdaisies · 09/12/2021 18:56

@Darkpheonix hope you find something to do your mum proud - I'm sure she'd be very proud of you anyway Flowers

@FuzzyPuffling Windsmoor went out of business several years ago!

That sounds great. Sounds like they are definitely worth a try.

@FuzzyPuffling thank you. Sounds like a shame if they went out of business like @CorrBlimeyGG says.

@pickingdaisies thank you. I am sure she would. I think I am just very focused on getting my outfit right, rather than facing up to losing her. Probably not healthy, but it's getting me through. Smile

Have you considered preloved? I have had many excellent quality items from here. Feel good factor for the planet too. Dark navy though.

Honestly? No. To be fair I usually would. But I have been on auto pilot since she died.

I will take a look. Its a really good idea.

Thank you

Some good offers on coats at Debenhams at the moment, for example this one:
