When you miss the returns date

What do you do?
I ordered some boots from which don't fit but didn't realise Next only have a 14 day returns window which I have now missed. Totally my fault, I am usually pretty good at online shopping.

But just wondering what do people do generally in this situation - is there any flexibility with the company, or shall I just sell them on eBay at a loss?

I thought by law you have 28 days. I would just try ringing them and asking. If not can you sell on eBay or vinted ?

gunnersgold · 09/12/2021 15:31

I work for them , it's 14 day on clearance stuff and 28 on normal . Most people don't adhere to those rules though and still get a refund . Just take it in and see what they say !

OhRexy · 09/12/2021 15:34

I am really shit at returns and they usually take them late. Some retailers charge a late fee. You could tell them you've been isolating if they push it but they won't.

mogschristmascalamity · 09/12/2021 15:37

I sent some next things back 2 months late and they just refunded. this was the height of the pandemic though.

Polmuggle · 09/12/2021 21:06

I just send them back - what are they going to do? Deliver them again?!

Auntycorruption · 09/12/2021 21:15

Take them back into store, they won't even notice the date. They just scan the barcode you don't even need an order confirmation

gunnersgold · 10/12/2021 06:44

@Auntycorruption we know exactly when you bought them from the barcode so that isn't true and we can refuse if overdue . The till flags it up with the exact date . Next systems are the best in retail !

Smorgasborb · 10/12/2021 06:53

How long after is it? Remember it's 24 days from receipt not order date. Isn't the post slow at the minute? I've been over a couple of days and sent them back and they always refunded. What are they going to do? Send them back?!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 10/12/2021 08:13

From their point of view, as long as the item is still in stock then they could take it back and resell it.

I took an item back to JL after 3 months as I was in hospital and after a long time on the phone to another store and head office they took it back.

OhRexy · 10/12/2021 09:03

I'm sending something back to next this week as it was clearly worn and washed and stinks of detergent. I really hate that.

IvorCutler · 10/12/2021 17:23

@MistySkiesAfterRain I think John Lewis have a 3 month window? At least they used to. I returned something after 3 months and was amazed (especially given it had gone on sale by that point and they gave me the full amount back).

Northernlass99 · 10/12/2021 18:02

Thanks all, it sounds like the advice generally is to give it a try with the retailers first. I will try it in future.

With this particular item, after reading your comments I contacted customer services and they said just take it back, and the store were fine.

I always return things late and never had a problem with Next

My local M&S did tell me that they were bringing in a shorter return period than previously after which you can only get vouchers.

HappyGirlNow · 10/12/2021 19:15

Just send them back. Next will def refund!

Daisy829 · 15/12/2021 15:11

I believe next is 14 days for online returns but I think you would get your money back. I did recently with phase 8. Just sent it back and they didn’t question it.
