GHD owners help

I bought new GHD max straighteners. Only out of box not used yet.
I have noticed there is a very slight gap between the plates. If you see my photo the gap is wider on the left and gets narrow on right. The plates touch together on right but not on left unless your press them hardish together.
Hope you understand me ok.
Is this normal or should they touch together perfectly?

I don't use ghd now nothing like they used to be. I needed new straighteners and found a brand called Basuwell on amazon under 25 pounds. I have very thick course curly ethnic hair and these are by far the best use ever used

@jessyjo2 they don't tough together. They are a little bit springy when you clamp them. The hair goes between them and that bridges the gap. I've used GHD's for 20 odd years and they have always been like this.
