What to wear with midi dresses

I have this dress plus a similar one and have been wearing them with an oversized cardigan but someone took a photo of me today and I look swamped and shapeless. What can I wear with them for warmth?

I would wear something underneath rather than on top. A silk or thermal full-length slip should help without adding bulk to the arms and then you could wear a cute cardi over the top. Thicker tights, at least 70 denier+ should help too.

I wear my midi dresses with thin layers underneath; thermal long sleeve tops or thin roll necks and sometimes an old fashioned silky slip too for extra warmth.

I add slouchy suede boots for leg warmth and thick tights.

If putting a cardi on top it is a thin one and I'll add a belt too to keep it form fitting.

Thanks @ghislaine, any suggestions for a cardigan that would suit, the sleeves are quite poofy so one with slim arms might not work?
Something like this with blouson sleeves perhaps? www.monsoon.co.uk/blouson-sleeve-cardigan-with-recycled-fabric-9586120151.html

Or a wrap/poncho? www.woolovers.com/womens/poncho/womens-cashmere-merino-blend-button-poncho-blue-15667?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8Ma5peDN9AIVGflRCh306AjmEAQYBCABEgIxP_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I love that first one, thank you!

@SoftPillow I like the idea of layers underneath but I have the added complication of breastfeeding currently so they would need to also be BF friendly and when I've looked for thermals I can't find any lift the flap style ones which are my preferred type.
