Lovely dress - awful static!

I've bought a lovely dress for Christmas Day which was delivered this morning. I tried it on, it suits me and fits well and is a dress I can wear often. But - bloody hell the static! Literally took it out and put it on, my hair almost stood on end and it's trying to be like my second skin!
It is 100% polyester (I know, I know!) and apparently hand wash only.
I've looked up anti static sprays, do they work?
Any other fixes?

Send it back as you'll never be happy with it.

Hairspray will stop it sticking to your tights. But in winter, static is high because of central heating so if it's so bad it's making your hair stand on end, I'm not sure what you can do about that.

Hairspray. Spray all over your tights - arse and thighs.

Give it a rinse with a generous dollop of fabric conditioner.

If you know anyone in the USA, ask them to send you a StaticGuard spray.... I've never found a European equivalent to match it.

Try pinning a safety pin somewhere hidden and see if that earths it. If you are careful it will stiff be returnable

@OnlyClothes

Give it a rinse with a generous dollop of fabric conditioner.
Was going to say this, fabric conditioner will sort it out.

Make your own anti-static spray - 1 part fabric softener to about 8 parts water in a spray bottle. Shake well and lightly spray the dress inside and out.
Surcare softener is good for this as it's unscented.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/12/2021 15:35

A slip under it will help.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/12/2021 15:38

Make sure your skin is well moisturised, don't wear your hair down on it, and give it a rinse with fabric softener but no washing powder.

Thanks all, will try all of this!

I bought a dress from eBay and the static was so bad I was like well no wonder they sold it,
I'm really sensitive to stuff like that so I thought I'd never be able to wear it..

I did more research than I care to admit

Do you have a metal coat hanger?
I read that you need to pass the dress through the metal hanger a few times

I also put a safety clip inside the bottom of the dress and I can now wear it wooohoo!

Send it back. I've tried all the above suggestions and they don't really work for long
