…I am returning to work after mat leave and have forgotten how to dress Confused. Please help! Show me to your work outfits or anything you bought recently for work that you love! I work in a hospital with kids so need to be smart but also comfy enough to crawl around on the floor when required. I don’t want to wear heels, will probably need to buy some flat ankle boots for winter. I get hot easily so short sleeves/layers are my friend. short skirts or low tops as not very practical when leaning over patients or crawling under tables after little ones so need to avoid these. Any ideas….? Photos and links if possible pretty please!!

Would love suggestions!!

I usually wear high waisted peg / paperbag trousers with smart thick t shirt style tops or shirts / blouses tucked in. And white trainers.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 05/12/2021 11:43

High waisted trousers with some stretch + thin cotton shirt in whatever prints you like tucked in + thin machine washable merino wool jumper to go over when you need it. This is a look I wear a lot in an environment with a similar level of formality required and similar need to avoid too short skirt and too low tops.
For avoiding feeling too hot I really like silk shirts but they are probably not a great idea in a hospital environment where you have infection control to consider and a gentle delicates wash cycle with cold water might not cut it.

Try uniqlo for stretchy trousers and thin jumpers. And fat face always have loads of thin cotton shirts/blouses. I’ve also found nice ones in gap and uniqlo before.

Thanks! I like the idea of high waisted trousers. I bought some high waited cords from Uniqlo which I love, although they are not really smart enough for work. @nanbread where do you get your work ones?

Cos is also great for work trousers but a higher price point than uniqlo.

Shame you missed Black Friday for this! Banana Republic trousers and blouses fit well and last. Bit on the pricey side although not extortionate- but every Black Friday they run 40% off everything so that's when I stock up.
Just get everything out, including shoes etc. Chuck anything you no longer like. Keep things you don't fit back into yet as your body may change again. Spot the gaps and make a shopping list.
Good luck going back!!

H&M trousers fitted but have a stretch waistband loafers and a stretch boat neck top basics in a variety of colours with different accessories It’s my uniform

I wear almost exactly what @Babyiskickingmyribs suggests, but with normal waist trousers- have some great 7/8th length ones from H and M. Boden Richmond are popular but I have never tried them, and think I say similar in Zara too. Often wear a tank top instead of a jumper as I get hot! Alternatively I like a roll neck under a sleeveless shift dress, but I don't usually crawl on the floor (teacher but Yr 6!), or the same tops with a long skirt and boots.

M&S have some fantastic high waisted trousers that hang really well and feel expensive

mynameiscalypso · 05/12/2021 16:56

I generally wear skinny black trousers, ankle boots and either a shirt/blouse or jumper. Sometimes with a blazer over the top. I have just bought a couple of wide legged trousers to wear with ankle boots and I'm enjoying the new silhouette.

coogee · 05/12/2021 19:10

Usually jeans of some description and a fitted cropped jumper. Jeans are unfashionably skinny or boot cut. Also low rise to add to the horror.

Boots on my feet.
