How do people get lovely smooth looking arms?

I've never really cared too much about it, especially since I used to carry a lot more weight and tended to hide my arms.

But.. now I've lost weight and decided to get a sleeveless wedding dress.

Hopefully the pictures post, the wedding dress one with corned beef arms is obviously me and the other picture is a witch of a woman with beautiful arms.

I know toning will help with the shape, it's the corned beef-ness that I want to try and tone down.

I do plan on exfoliating my back and shoulders out of existence too to try and shift the shocking tan lines. Last summer was the first time in my life I've ever tanned which is really helpful!

Self massage on your arms would improve circulation which in conjunction with diet and exercise should improve the appearance. Any old cream/oil is fine, you don't need to spend a fortune.

Heard good things about The Ordinary glycolic acid toner being used on arms. (I’ve not tried it yet, but plan to.)

OxanaVorontsova · 04/12/2021 09:18

Ameliorate lotion is good

Delphinna · 04/12/2021 09:20

That picture is photoshopped. Even that woman doesn’t have those arms.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/12/2021 09:21

We're white people living in cold lands, we're always going to look like corned beef.
Unlike my siblings who are half asian and always look lovely with smooth tanned skin.
Its not fair and it sucks but it is what it is.

Sauvignonandlemonade · 04/12/2021 09:21

I think part of it is just the complexion you were born with. I have the English corned beef skin whereas dd got her dad's Mediterranean olive skin.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 04/12/2021 09:22

Ameliorate transforming body exfoliant and body lotion is fab but a bit pricey! Also your dress looks gorgeous Smile

Callcat · 04/12/2021 09:22

I accententally totally solved my problem with this!!! I had some random products I was trying to use up and used the Simple brand toner on my body for a couple of weeks straight after a shower or bath, followed by aveeno moisturiser and the backs of my arms are now amazing! I use it every day now! That, plus moisturising at night, plus exfoliating with one of those rough gloves once or twice per week. They look like someone else's arms now 😁

GoodnightGrandma · 04/12/2021 09:22

I use the exfoliating gloves from Primark with some shower gel. Fluff the gel up and do at least 20 circular motions at each problem area. Then moisturise. Do it twice a week to start, then weekly .

Korean italy towels from Amazon!

lazylinguist · 04/12/2021 09:46

I think exercise helps a lot, not just because your muscles get toned, but I think it also improves circulation in those areas

hotmeatymilk · 04/12/2021 09:48

Photoshop and makeup. Your arms look beautiful in your dress (I’m sure the rest of you does too), and HUMAN.

KeyLimeFly · 04/12/2021 09:49

Spray tan 👍

Ameliorate and exercise

coogee · 04/12/2021 10:02

A combination of youth, exercise, low body fat percentage and a bit of sunlight.

How ridiculous! 😡 My arms look like the ones on the right hand side. I don't exercise but am olive skinned and naturally slender. I am human too....

Cerave do a salicylic acid moisturiser called SA Smoothing Cream and it’s excellent for backs of arms (and shins!) and is inexpensive.

Lifting heavy weights and body weight exercise would help with sculpting but as per the PP, you need to be pretty lean to actually see the sculpting around the triceps and biceps. Shoulders/deltoids seem to show results sooner.

Thank you for all your help. For all I know everything is always photoshopped I can never get my brain to accept that, much easier to put yourself down isn't it Grin.

OK I'm going to go for a multi pronged attack to hopefully see some improvement. I wouldn't be bothered generally, I'm mostly along the lines of my body is the flesh suit that let's me do what I want so it doesn't matter greatly what it looks like, but I'm paying so much for a photographer I want the pictures on my wall forever without hating them.

Ordering some Ameliorate, started body brushing/massaging, hoyed some toner on just after I've gotten out of the shower there. We're in the process of getting some gym equipment for the garage anyways in the run up to the wedding (and generally for life obviously) so I'll get a push on that.

I have some Korean Italy towels somewhere but only ever did my legs for some reason then gave up due to lack of effort, I'll dig them little buggers back out.

Finally, I'm going to accept that I'll probably always be a little bit corned beefy and instead focus more energy on getting younger and changing my parents heritage Grin.

Definition - exercise including lifting weights. Smooth glossy skin - requires a lot of hard word to maintain as you get older. I use the same routine on my body as I do on my face.

Cocona · 04/12/2021 10:16

@LaCerbiatta my friend sounds like you and she is beautiful in every way just naturally (and also really fucking nice which was a kicker, not even a flawed personality!) . My issue is my genes/diet/exercise/aversion to sunlight I think.

Korean towels and Eucerin cream. My arms look like yours at the moment and will stay that way until Spring when I'll frantically put that plan into place and they'll be fine by Summer (although not like the other photo as I am white and pasty!)

LaCerbiatta · 04/12/2021 10:55

Well I'm far from beautiful, looks or personality wise. It's unfortunately a lot down to genes!
but your arms are beautiful and no one will be thinking anything different!

cosmopolitanplease · 04/12/2021 10:55

If ameliorate doesn't work for you OP (it didn't for me) I can recommend CeraVe SA cream as mentioned by a PP. It's the only product to have transformed the skin on my arms and I've tried them all!
