I have quite a few long sleeved floaty tops in thin fabric that id like to be able to wear for meals out/ special occasions in winter. So, I need a couple of long sleeve tops, one black and one cream/ white, to wear underneath. I'm thinking of skins type things, but do they get really hot? Ideally I want a thin, close fitting fabric that will keep me warm if needed but which won't make me boil. I never know if a venue will be warm or on the cool side so I really want an item of clothing that can be cosy but won't make me overheat.

Any ideas?

Merino base layer

The Uniqlo one above. I have the round neck but if you want something more for going out the ballet neck is more dressy.

I knew uniqlo would enter the chat Grin

however i dont shop there, but a think sweat wicking vest might suffice. Could you have a gander at some outdoor or hiking sites? If you prefer natural fibres then a thin merino would be nice, which i would prefer to buy from COS, although a bit more expensive at around £40.

I often wear silk cami's or simple hiking merino base layers beneath otherwise thin tops. You can find bargain merino which is close fitting at mountain warehouse for next to nothing.

I also rate the lace trim long sleeved vests at Brora, very warm and machine washable (and pretty!) but retail at something like £60. I buy one per yr.

I find that even just wearing a vest underneath a top makes a big difference to how cold/warm I am. I have some cotton strap vests from Next that are about £5, and if I get in the petite fit it means that they tuck in without showing.
