Gucci belt!?

Can anyone advise me, I'm looking for a belt for DD Christmas. Is the marmont referring to the GG buckle?

As far as I can see the marmont is a collection of mainly bags by there's one belt. It does have the GG buckle by so do the non marmont ones.

santasmuma · 03/12/2021 15:35

Oh I have seen a few belts, but I have also now seen other belts with the GG rather than the G backwards G

Have to admit I don't know what I'm looking at and even more complicated seems to be the sizing. They are measured by hips not waist so using one of her existing belts as a guide to measure isn't going to work.

Can you have a look at the purse forum website, they have a Gucci section and someone should be able to help if there isn’t a similar thread already. Good luck!

santasmuma · 03/12/2021 19:30

Thanks I shall have a look for that forum now

This is the one I have (and so does every other woman I walk past 😂) www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/gucci/accessories/skinny/leather-belt/19971654707126946

It comes in two thicknesses. I have the skinny one because I wear it mostly on my waist with dresses, but the thicker one looks better with jeans imo.

Hope that helps!

santasmuma · 05/12/2021 15:47

Thank you.

Can anyone help with sizing. I saw a chart that said 95 was a UK10 but other charts say 95 is a 14 - I have tried measuring one of her belts but it's inconclusive 😩

OP posts:
hilbil21 · 05/12/2021 15:52

95 I would say is 14. I'm a 10-12 (nearer the 12) and I'm returning the 95 as it's too big. The 85 is too small, so going for a 90

sansucre · 05/12/2021 16:41

Gucci Marmont, be it bags or anything else have the Gs facing the same direction. Those referred to as 'interlocking' have the G facing in different directions.

What size is your DD? I'm a UK size 6, IT 38-40 and usually buy a size 70, 75 or 80 dependent on how I want the belt to fit/how the belt is designed. I wear belts on my waist, not my hips, and tend to buy the bigger size if it will be used to belt in a coat. The size guide on Gucci's website is helpful and suggests taking a size smaller if the belt will be worn at the waist.

santasmuma · 05/12/2021 17:28

I thought that about marmont but then I saw other belts with the GG similar which were not described as marmont - I have been trying to figure it out but I can't Blush

She is a 10 and it would be worn on her waist, I think I have got to maybe a 90.

Thanks for all the help

To make another stab at this...

My dad had a huge collection of Gucci belts in the 70s and 80s, all with the interlocking Gs style buckle, and also a single G. These classic designs were very much the centre of Gucci under Tom Ford. Marmont is a recent thing, Alessandro Michele's (the current designer's) signature (if you like). Part of this is also the introduction of the Gs facing in the same way, like this GG. If in doubt, buy whatever belt has the Gs facing the same direction!

To explain further - the double G logo sits on the Marmont bag, and why your daughter might have asked for a Marmont belt.

Google 'Gucci interlocking G' and 'Gucci double G' and you will see the difference. Your daughter wants the latter!

I hope all this makes sense.

santasmuma · 05/12/2021 19:00

I can see the difference between the GG and the interlocking G. Not all GG are marmont though?

She hasn't asked for any particular belt though, she doesn't even know I'm getting her one. She definitely prefers the GG over interlocking, I do know that much. The 'marmont' has thrown me!

I had the skinny GG one a few years back (sold it) and I am a size 10. I bought a size 80 and had an additional hole put in so that I could wear it either with jeans or on the smallest part of my waist. A 90 would be way too big, it's a hip belt not a waist belt.

hilbil21 · 05/12/2021 21:37

The 85 didn't even do up on my hips lol

santasmuma · 05/12/2021 21:46

it's a hip belt not a waist belt.

I thought it could be worn either or?

I'm beginning to think this was not such a good idea!!

OP posts:
sansucre · 05/12/2021 21:50

Take what your DD has said at face value, she wants the buckle on whichever belt you buy her to match the one on the Marmont bag.

The belts can be worn on both the hip and waist although their are shown (and sized) to be worn on the hip. Gucci's website has a detailed explanation re. belt sizes.

thisplaceisweird · 05/12/2021 21:53

Your daughter needs to send you the link and or photos of it on the website and she needs to find a tape measure and get her measurements. Otherwise sounds like you're risking getting the wrong thing!

Also, by hip, it means where one's hip bones are and not the widest part of ones hips.

She hasn't said anything to me:

There isn't wrong thing, I just thought I may buy her a belt.

Sorry everyone, I'm awful at explaining so I'm not surprised there are crossed wires. I was asking about the marmont because I wondered what the difference was between the belts labelled marmont with the GG and the other belts, also with the GG.

DD hasn't asked for a belt, so I'm not at risk of buying her the wrong one with regards to the marmont/non marmont, I just wondered what the difference was really as I couldn't spot it.

Yes sorry - as @sansucre said, I meant they are sized to be worn on the hip, ie with jeans. You can’t buy one in the right size for jeans and expect to wear it on the waist as well, as they don’t have enough holes. That’s why I got an extra hole added, as I wanted a bit more value for money!
sansucre · 05/12/2021 22:51

I've tried my best to explain what Marmont is 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, shall leave this thread now as the ex-personal shopper in my is starting to get very very frustrated - I genuinely don't understand how buying a belt has become such hard work, it's not rocket science 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's not hard work, I was just asking if I was missing something because some belts are called marmont and some are not. All of these belts have the same style buckle. I acknowledge I don't explain things very well but still you have returned to be rude unnecessarily. I honestly could not have seen this coming on a thread about a belt.

Your daughter will love it, what a lovely surprise - dont let people put you off it will be ok to exchange if the size is wrong, just choose the one you like best - the link a previous poster is the one i see most 20s girls wearing 👍🏻
