Dress tall/plus size comfortable & flattering on my middle

I am after a dress to wear for a family meal (I don’t normally wear dresses often) that is comfortable, not overly warm (so not woollen or polyester as I find the fabric too warm and itchy). I am mid fifties tall 5’10’, plus sized (size 22) with a very round tummy (which I would like to disguise/minimise).

The colours are lovely, length is great and print would be fab if I spilled something. But the shape and overall look does absolutely nothing for me and looks very old fashioned and matronly. I was going to wear it with some tan casual boots, opaque tights, nice necklace and earrings and get my hair done.

This is a photo of the dress it looks slightly shorter on me but obviously the model is wearing size one and has less curves to cover.

I'm very similar height, dress size and shape to you and I sympathise as it's hard to find nice tall, plus sizes.

I've recently bought the dress below and a couple of others which don't seem to be on the site now, all from Nasty Gal at Debenhams. Honestly not a range I would have even known about until an Instagram blogger added some photos. Worth a look through their dresses as there's the odd winner.

@FatFashionFan thanks not too boring but I don’t feel the tied waist would do my tummy any favours.

@thenightsky thanks I have looked at LTS but all in my nice with are either polyester or a strange shape. I have been very disappointed with their offerings since the new owners took over.

@FatFashionFan - I really like the shape of the first dress but the colours are a bit too drab. I love the colours of the second dress but I have had no success with empire line in the past and that dress seems to be overly emphasising the models boobs. I quite liked the third dress until I read it was polyester.

@Shittybobbins I used to find the occasional winner in my local Debenhams but sadly it closed down. I quite liked that dress until I saw its 100% polyester too. I will look to see if their are any others.

Thanks @RandomRoulette these prints are a bit too bright even for me lol also not keen on the high necks or the mini dress.

I usually find 3/4 sleeves best (so they are definitely long enough and I get warm so usually push them up anyway).

This is so hard I feel like not going at all but have to as its with DH’s family and some we haven’t seen since well before the pandemic. My other two SIL’s are both younger than me, both slim, both high flyers with both dressing rooms full of clothes and dresses and both have unlimited budgets.

They've taken away the customer review section too. I used to rely on that!

Yes the review section was excellent as I often took a chance on things which were highly rated but looked nothing in the photos. It also helped with knowing what size to buy, if the colours IRL looked different from the photos, or if the fabric had a strange feel to it etc.

Ooh Betty is a uk who makes clothes to order. The ladies are lovely and you can custom the length, sleeves, style and material and you're supporting slow fashion and a British company so it's a wi all round! If you do go to the site che k out the Betty's bottoms- I have 4 pairs already!!

I'm 5ft10 size 22-24 some nice dress in Littlewoods and Long Tall Sally, I like misguided stuff but it more street less floaty.

I live the ethos of Ooh Betty but i ordered some trousers from them but was disappointed as the fabric was too heavy for the design so they kept falling down. Also the fabric used was heavily synthetic and itchy. The owner is lovely and Accommodating but don’t think I would risk a dress as I am so rotund around the middle.

Have you tried Monsoon OP? They go up to size 22 and not everything is polyester. What do you think of this:

I'm your height and age op. Not plus size but lockdown has left me with a bumpier middle. I have a few dresses from Toast, Cos and Baujken that are very flattering. Have you looked through the curve dresses on ASOS? I'd be tempted by something like this if I didn't already have a couple that look just like it. They stock Never Fully Dressed Plus too and they have are some lovely colours

I find this shape dress works well as it's ftted, but only a bit and flares out before the stomach.
