A beige faux shearling coat in your late 50's?
When you're 5ft 3 on a good day, size 14 & rectangular? It feels like a hug on ( and is the next best thing to wearing a dressing gown out) but I think it makes me look like a tank ...

What's age got to do with it? Wear what you like.

Do you have a photo or a link please? I'd like to wear a hug

pastypirate · 30/11/2021 09:55

Can't judge without a pic!! Just crop your head out ❤️

LadyWithLapdog · 30/11/2021 10:00

Do you have a link? Depends where you’d wear it and I think it would suit most occasions.

Cantonet · 30/11/2021 10:03

Here a pic though not of me in it.
I'm not being ageist at all but my coats are normally fairly simple wool/cashmere Jaeger.

It's nice. But unless you take a photo of you in it we can't really judge. It look very long for 5'3 ( I am 5'1). Crop out your head

Catcrazy83 · 30/11/2021 10:06

I’m short so avoid long coats altogether Sad

LadyWithLapdog · 30/11/2021 10:09

It doesn’t look that thick so I don’t think it would be too bulky.

pastypirate · 30/11/2021 10:11

You can only wear it with black and brown and v neutral tones IMO

ILoveShula · 30/11/2021 10:18

Get it.

ILoveShula · 30/11/2021 10:19

I would but I already have a faux shearling and it's cosy

Thanks for the photo

Taoneusa · 30/11/2021 12:34

The answer is , wear it if you can relax into looking shapeless but comfy.

Current fashion seems to be about letting go of our ideas of looking shapely!

Yumyumicedbuns · 01/12/2021 16:46

I’m 5”3 and 51 years young. I have a very similar coat in a dusty pink. The first day I wore it, I had 4 compliments, so I can’t have looked too silly!

dannydyerismydad · 01/12/2021 17:38

Nope. But only because I like a coat I can chuck on.

If I wear beige I need a full face of makeup or else I look like a corpse.

Oh my I thought it was just me if I ever wear anything beige people ask me if I am ill.
CloudyStorms · 01/12/2021 18:04

Oh that's nice!

dannydyerismydad · 01/12/2021 18:11

@Lolly49 it can be handy to have an emergency beige garment though. Especially if your employer is the sort to send you home if you look under the weather.

5128gap · 01/12/2021 19:49

I'm 52 and wear whatever I like. But that means I'm also old enough to remember Dougal. So I wouldn't wear that.

Benjispruce5 · 01/12/2021 19:50

If you think you don’t look good in it ,don’t buy it.

MoltonSilver · 01/12/2021 19:55

The age is irrelevant but it makes you look like a tank so no .

AnnieSnap · 01/12/2021 23:18

I absolutely would. I am a size 16, aged 62 and have a blue one and I love it 🙂

Cantonet · 01/12/2021 23:33

@AnnieSnap you look incredible in yours.
But I think it helps that it's darker & you have a smaller frame. I'm an ex-swimmer with very well developed shoulders.
I've decided to send it back as I don't think I'll wear it. Last year I bought a green suede biker jacket that I never wore as I felt it accentuated my shoulders.
@5128gap@Taoneusa yes shapeless & comfy is an apt description . Looks brilliant on my skinny daughters but like a wide bag of poo on me.

AnnieSnap · 01/12/2021 23:46

@cantonet You should be proud of your shoulders 🙂 when I was a young woman, I used to lift weights a lot and I remember lots of other women in the gym wouldn’t push themselves and stuck to the lightest ones because they “didn’t want to develop muscles” 🤷‍♀️ I didn’t look manly, but I was proud of mine, as were other women there who did the same. I have just a few months ago gone back to it. You have to feel comfortable of course, but my advice, for what it’s worth is accept yourself for who/what you are and wear what makes you feel good - and you did say that coat felt like a hug 🙂

Sooverthemill · 02/12/2021 07:11

@Cantonet so try another one in a different colour? If it's comfortable and makes yiu feel cosy then it's just the colour to get right!

Cantonet · 05/12/2021 14:34

@sooverthemill the thing is i have so many coats already - from Jigsaw/jaeger/parka london/ protected species & the like. I tend to buy expensive outer wear ( used to be Maxmara ) but i 'm happy to wear say h&m linen t shirts inside them.😊
