My hands are wrecked, recommend a luxury hand cream?

Inspired by an MN thread, I am requesting a few luxury items that I wouldn't normally buy myself for Christmas (especially when we've just sunk every penny into an extension).

Just had 3rd DC so might be hormones, might be winter, might be kitchen building but my hands and nails are wrecked. Cuticles are a mess and nails are splitting vertically down the middle.

Can anyone recommend hand cream/cutilcle treatment etc that actually works.

Oh and while I'm here, same queation for lip treatment. (I am literally crumbling).

Hard as Hoof nail strengthening cream has worked wonders on my peeling and splitting nails.

Definitely Kiehl’s Ultimate - I’ve tried most of the others mentioned - l’occitane, o’keefes, aveeno, neutrogena etc etc etc and it’s better than all of them.

Best hand cream ever, three different scents, all divine 🙂

Wouldn’t bother with “luxury”. O’Keefes for hard working hands is really good. About 9 quid.

I'm surprised nobody has recommended neutrogena. It's amazing.

If your hands and lips are dry, make sure you're well hydrated and maybe look at ways to adding moisture to the air.

Elizabeth Arden 8hr hand cream. It’s amazing. Transforms my hands.

Elizabeth Arden 24 hr cream for lips and other dry bits. It’s also amazing and the tube will last years.

@Curtainpoleofdoom yes, they have virtually identical packaging to the brand names.

I like Eucerin 5% hand cream.

Nursem best hand cream, hands down and I have tried most of them. I get v dry , chapped hands. This is non greasy and works v quickly.

Intend to use o Keefes at night and quite often Vaseline with cotton gloves. I’ve tried so many hand creams and have to say that in the main the posh ones don’t have any better results. However I got a Claus Porto tuberose hand cream in a Liberty GWP and it smelled wonderful and made my hands look about ten years younger for the next couple of hours (not permanently sadly!) - it’s a lovely day time hand cream to keep on your bag.

LoveLabradors · 01/12/2021 16:38

Grr autocorrect - not intend but I generally!

LoveLabradors · 01/12/2021 16:39

I prefer the o keefes tube to the tub too.

For really heavy-duty moisturising the magic ingredients are urea, glycerin and lanolin. They’re humectants - they pull water from the lower layers of the skin (don’t worry, unless you’re horribly dehydrated it’ll be replaced instantly) and hold it in the top layer. Lanolin is similar to skin lipids, and acts as an emollient occlusive layer to smooth skin and as a barrier. You may need to look at the non-glamourous workhorse brands rather than the cosmetic counters. Flexitol Hand Balm is good at a reasonable price.

If you use hyaluronic acid for your face, a few drops on your hands under a hand cream will help.

I use lanolin on my lips. You can buy fancy ones but Lansinoh at £5.99 for 10ml works well and doesn’t smell sheepy. It goes pretty solid when it’s cool so just pop it in your pocket for a few minutes.

For those whose hands are so dry they get cracks, superglue is the only thing that healed the cracks I used to get next to my thumb nails. It seals the crack, letting it heal from the bottom without zipping open just as you think it’s healed. It also stops salt, lemon juice etc getting into the crack. To use, pull the crack apart slightly, drop a single small drop of superglue in and squeeze the crack shut, being careful not to glue your hands together. It stings like mad for a second, then you can forget about it.

Used to think L’Occitane hand cream was best but then discovered Deciem’s Hand Chemistry Pro-Repair cream for hands, it is BRILLIANT!

Olliesocks · 01/12/2021 17:25

Nursem.

Taoneusa · 01/12/2021 17:41

If you do actually want a luxury suggestion , Neom hand balms are very rich and smell amazing. I got some for my birthday, and am really enjoying them.

WakeUpLockie · 01/12/2021 17:42

Lips - lanolin

Taoneusa · 01/12/2021 17:43

For nails / cuticles, mavala nailactin is unbeatable. It seems very speedy until you realise how long it lasts.
