My hands are wrecked, recommend a luxury hand cream?

Inspired by an MN thread, I am requesting a few luxury items that I wouldn't normally buy myself for Christmas (especially when we've just sunk every penny into an extension).

Just had 3rd DC so might be hormones, might be winter, might be kitchen building but my hands and nails are wrecked. Cuticles are a mess and nails are splitting vertically down the middle.

Can anyone recommend hand cream/cutilcle treatment etc that actually works.

Oh and while I'm here, same queation for lip treatment. (I am literally crumbling).

Body shop hemp hand cream is the best I’ve tried. It’s not the most expensive by far but for long lasting moisture and “healing” you can’t beat it.
Lip balm is trickier. I’m still on the search so watching with interest.

Toastytoads · 29/11/2021 22:09

O'keefes working hands is amazing

Archip17 · 29/11/2021 22:10

For Lips, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is the only one for me, and I have tried everything!! It's not the cheapest but one tube lasts a really long time, even with several times daily use.

FlickyCrumble · 29/11/2021 22:11

Flexitol hand balm will fix your hands overnight and for during the day use aveeno body lotion (not their hand cream as it’s greasy)

RubyTuesday70 · 29/11/2021 22:15

Aveda hand relief is my go to, and it lasts for ages. It smells gorgeous and really works.

The Elizabeth Arden lip balm is absolutely cracking, I've got one by the bed and one in my work bag. It's the only one I've ever used that works and I've probably tried dozens! I walk my dogs in all weathers and used to really suffer with cracked lips.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 29/11/2021 22:16

I have awful hands (cracked and bleeding half the time!) and have found that the best things are a good exfoliation and Aveeno when they are bad.

For regular upkeep, my fave is CND which you can get from Amazon. Smells like marzipan!!

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 29/11/2021 22:17

Oh and lips, Carmex all the way!!!

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/11/2021 22:19

@Toastytoads

O'keefes working hands is amazing
I second this

O’keefes during the day, and then l’occitane 25% Shea butter overnight, with cotton gloves (SEXY) - though O’keefes have just bought out an overnight so you could try that first - cheaper - (you need the cotton gloves tho, and least some nights, to really get the benefit),

For lip balm, o’keefes solid stick is good during day. Then Clinique Superbalm overnight if dry, or clarins hydra-essential if dehydrated. (Or alternate the two if you are both like me.)

If you also have try skin round your eyes you can’t beat Bobbi brown extra eye cream (way better than kiehls avocado that everyone goes on about)

My skin is so dry it could fall off and I have a ancient hands like a 🧙‍♀️

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 29/11/2021 22:19

I have found O'Keefe's working hands to be greasy and not hugely helpful.

Sleepinghyena · 29/11/2021 22:20

Aveeno blue lid hand cream. It's not greasy- it's wonderous. Better than any of the more expensive ones I've tried. L'Occitane is also good if you are determined to buy more expensive.

thesockfromtheroof · 29/11/2021 22:21

For lips, use Lansinoh HPA Lanolin Nipple Cream.

Slather it on at night and log by application during the day. It's like Vaseline only purer. A tube costs £10 and lasts me over a year.

It's bloody brilliant Grin

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 29/11/2021 22:21

Carmex lip balm
The Chemistry Brand hand cream (pink one)
Nailtiques formula 2

thesockfromtheroof · 29/11/2021 22:21

Body Shop Hemp is the greatest hand cream ever. Closely followed by Nursem which was developed for nurses and smells amazing!

SittingontheSidelines · 29/11/2021 22:22

L'occcitaine Shea butter hand cream. I also use the Shea butter foot cream as a hand cream. It has a lovely lavender scent.
Both feel and smell lovely and keep hand soft.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 29/11/2021 22:22

Also have a large tube of L'Occitane shea butter in the bathroom cabinet that hasn't been used in a year as I just do not find it makes much difference. I genuinely think you need to find your own combo OP!

Roundlampshade · 29/11/2021 22:25

Beyredo is fantastic but for a tenth of the price, get thee to Aldi and get the Lacura Hemp hand cream. It’s phenomenal.

Roundlampshade · 29/11/2021 22:26

And another vote for the Body Shop Hemp hand cream.

HelplesslyHoping · 29/11/2021 22:34

O'keefes. They do an intense foot cream too that is good for particularly dry areas of the hands. Avoid any luxury products with strong scents- even natural scents.

honeylemonteaforme · 29/11/2021 22:37

The trick I find is to apply frequently. Like 12 times a day frequently and to put cotton socks/gloves on at bedtime until the skin barrier is repaired.
And the absolute worst thing is not drying them after washing esp in the cold.
So I like aveeno cream the green one with the pump for convenience

When they've recovered you can switch to posh nice smelling ones

muldersspeedos · 29/11/2021 22:39

These two. I'm outdoors in all weathers and swear by these. I have sensory issues and can't tolerate a lot of hand creams but this is great. Mine get cracked, itchy and will bleed but this sorts them out in one go and lasts a long time between applications. The lip balm is the same really and I won't use anything else. Both are inexpensive.

The solid hand cream bars from the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Company fixed excema splits in my hands in less than 3 days! They are brilliant!
www.edinburghskincare.com/product-category/hand-care/solid-hand-cream-bars/

They are quite greasy for daytime, though so now I use Nursem for day and the above for night!

AnnaMagnani · 29/11/2021 22:41

Flexitol which is not luxury but seriously works.

Panfriedscallops · 29/11/2021 22:50

I use L'occitane Shea butter at night because it does wonders for my nails. Boots retinol hand cream on the other hand (sorry, couldn't resist) is brilliant for improving the skin. I use that through the day
