What too with a satin slip skirt?

For a Christmas do. I’ve got a variety of satin blouses but being giant of nork I’m not finding the look quite right on me although it looks nice on other people

Now I’m thinking maybe a v neck cashmere sweater or cardigan but I can’t find quite what I want. I think I need a deep v, close fitted but not too tight and fairly short in the body so I can tuck it in

But actually I’ve lost my way with this and would welcome any advice

No, you cannot tuck in anything in a satin slip skirt.

Go the other way, a loose cashmere jumper, M&S men's ones?

Loose on the top ain’t working.

This is how I imagined I’d look. I don’t

Maybe a contrasting fabric, Merino wool or jersey form fitting vest or long sleeved top?

I love a big chunky roll neck with a delicate skirt but could be too warm for a party.

It looks nice of the photo, but once you tuck in anything in a skirt like this then it bunches up and shows badly.

Anyway hope it works for you, just try it well and for longer than you think it’s necessary. Also sit in it when trying on.

What about a cropped top with a fitted waist band that doesn’t need tucking in - so either it just meets the skirt or it just covers the top cm or two or the skirt.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 29/11/2021 12:27

Or a bodysuit so it wouldn’t bunch.

There is a vlog called A Small Wardrobe on YouTube. She wears a cream, silk / satin slip skirt a lot. Might be worth a look for inspiration.

WeirdArchitecture · 29/11/2021 13:25

honestly, fine cashmere, or nothing!

MoltonSilver · 29/11/2021 13:58

A V neck cashmere jumper would be lovely with it but if it's a dinner and you'll be sitting at a table all evening no one will see the skirt and it'll just look like you didn't bother dressing for the occasion. It would also be very warm.

A rib poloneck. close fitting and not too long. Unicorn poo, in other words

Some good suggestions here thanks. I’ll do some more browsing. It really is a boob problem, they make everything look awful Sad

I've got a slip skirt and find that I can just tuck things in a bit in the front. If it bunches up and spoils the line then I wear 10 denier tights and tuck the front bit into into the tights to keep it flat and then sometimes wear a belt to cover the top of the skirt. Sounds awful, but actually looks ok!

CrushedPistachios · 29/11/2021 17:25

Oh I saw a trick for tucking jumpers to wear with slip dresses! Wear a regular bra, then a sports bra over and tuck the hem of your jumper into the sports bra.

It’s called the bra tuck hack, there’s some videos out there for it.

Handsnotwands · 29/11/2021 20:24

Yes the blouse I’ve got i can tuck in just the front, that works ok, and I’ve got a thin lock buckle belt that is also ok

I just think something closer fitting over the stomach would give me a better outline. But I’ve looked at every single fine knit v neck out there and can’t find The One

I'm a size 16 and I've got a satin black slip skirt with a split ( river island ).

I bought the satin peplum top ( again in black ) and they look brilliant together - maybe try a peplum style ? I'm also large chested ( 36 FF ) and I stay away from high necks not somehow this works.

Good luck, hope you find the right top!
